Chapter 1
In Melbourne, there was a crime gang known as the Mercecci’s.
They have terrorised the city since 2008, and their leader, Master Kointant, was known for her cruelty, ruthlessness, and being the most skilled fighter anyone had seen.
Anyone who crossed her paid the price with their lives.
The crimes of the Mercecci’s were at an all-time high, but five years ago, the crimes decreased, and the city knew who to thank.
People called them The Vigilantes.
Nobody knew who they were, what they looked like; all they knew was that they protected the city from the Mercecci’s.
Nobody ever saw them in clear daylight, but they always left behind a symbol. People tried everything to catch them, but they knew it was impossible to catch these vigilantes.
Even the police were in awe of their work and wished they could express their gratitude to these vigilantes for their assistance.
Little did everyone know, the vigilantes were closer than anyone thought.
Deep underground, underneath the main police department, was a secret home where the vigilantes lived.
They had a reason they did not live above ground, as they knew they would be ridiculed, teased, and locked up.
The vigilantes all had unique features, and they looked different from each other.
Even though they were not related to each other, they were sisters, they were a family.
The oldest was named Magenta. She had purple skin, jet-black hair, and violet eyes. With huge biceps, she could control and summon different gemstones and metals from the earth. Her weapons were two katana blades made of diamonds, which could cut through anything. She was the leader of her team.
The second sister was named Ruby. She had red skin, fiery orange hair, and the greenest eyes; she was the smartest of her sisters. Always on her computer, she was the one who tracked down the Mercecci’s and their next locations. Ruby could control fire and lava. Her weapons were two spathas that lit up with fire when she touched them, and she could shoot lava from her hands using special beams she created. Additionally, she had a small watch that could convert into a computer and glasses capable of scanning anything.
The third sister was named Emerald. She had green skin, brown hair, and the brightest yellow eyes, and her legs were the strongest among her sisters. Emerald could control anything related to plants and the earth. Her weapons were a gun staff made from Australian Buloke, which allowed her to summon earthquakes. Emerald could also shoot poison ivy vines from her hands and hair.
The final and youngest sister was named Pearl. She had blue skin, snow-white hair, and lilac eyes. Pearl controlled anything related to water, air, and the surrounding weather. She could shoot lightning from her hands, summon storms, and wield two double-edged swords that could summon and shoot water geysers whenever she touched them.
When they were born, their parents were disgusted by their appearances and dumped them in the sewers, and that is when she found them.
Master Shenai was a skilled fighter and the rival of Kointant, but she broke ties with Kointant many years ago.
One day, she went out for a midnight walk, and she saw the four of them. She took the girls in and raised them in the sewers. She knew that the girls would not be accepted in society, so she built an underground home, under the main police department, in the sewers, and she taught the girls how to fight and protect themselves and the city.
Before long, Shenai became a mother to the girls and would go to the ends of the earth for her daughters.
The four sisters protected the city and kept their identities a secret from the outside world, as the people of Melbourne only knew them as the four vigilantes who were pushing back against the Mercecci’s.
But they were not the only ones who were keeping an eye on the Mercecci’s.
Two 17-year-old twins, named Opal and Luna, were two of their high-school reporters and had been researching the Mercecci’s crimes for quite some time.
They lived with their single mother (Sonia) in a small apartment, and she worked as a nurse.
Opal and Luna both had chocolate-brown hair, tanned skin, and inherited their father’s crystal-blue eyes.
One day, they were called in by Principal Shoki for a meeting about their investigations into the Mercecci’s.
“I know you two will not be happy, but you have to stop investigating the Mercecci’s and publishing articles about them at the school.”
“What!?” the twins gasped in unison.
“I’m sorry, but the board has said that it’s not good for the school if we have people researching and presenting articles by students from this school on the biggest crime gang in this city.”
“But Shoki,” Opal argued.
“Principal Shoki to you, Miss North,” Shoki snapped.
“Principal Shoki,” Luna said, “how are we meant to find more about our dad if we can’t investigate the gang behind his death?”
“You know how much harm the Mercecci’s have caused to our family,” Opal argued.
“Look,” sighed Shoki. “I know that it has only been 6 months since the death of your father, but you girls have to stop.”
“Can’t you allow a few more weeks at least?” Opal pleaded.
“I’m sorry, but my hands are tied on this,” Principal Shoki said. “The school’s reputation is on the line, and I don’t want to have to close down the school because of your articles.”
“But Principal-,” Opal said.
“Continue, and it will end in suspension and you two no longer being on the school paper,” Principal Shoki warned sternly.
The twins left the office with Opal feeling very frustrated and angry.
“Luna, we cannot stop reporting,” Opal grunted. “How are we meant to find out what truly happened to our dad and his work on the Mercecci’s if we can’t research or publish anything at the school?”
“Opal, I’m not worried,” Luna grinned.
“Why not?” Opal asked, confused.
“Shoki said not do it at school, but she didn’t say anything about doing it during after-school hours,” Luna grinned.
Opal smiled, and the two sisters left to go to the library as they had a tutoring session.
