Chapter 1

To the creators of my happy destiny — my parents. I dedicate this to you...

The Wind Fell in Love with You. Prologue

— What has happened? Why have there been disturbances in the fourth dimension?

One of the figures glanced at the others before continuing.

— We cannot allow careless movement between dimensions. It’s entropy—pure chaos. The space they occupy in Time is the most optimal for life on Earth. For now, they only know of four dimensions—one of which is Time.

Eight Sages sat in a wide, open meadow, arranged in a perfect circle, facing one another. No names were spoken—there was no need. Whoever spoke, addressed them all.

— These changes are the result of senseless decline—energy and matter collapsing into disorder.

All eyes turned to the next speaker.

— I affirm this and support the entropy-based explanation. The question is both serious and profound. It all comes down to thermodynamics. Let me remind you that not long ago, humans on Earth achieved remarkable progress in the retention of stable energy.— I won’t bore you with discoveries we have always known—long before they were known to them.— Nor shall we blame them for not grasping the nature of Infinity, where there is neither Beginning nor End.

The Sages exchanged knowing glances, and seven pairs of eyes turned to the third speaker.

— There is one question, seemingly insignificant, that people often forget to ask: Why does anything happen at all?— Profound questions are often dismissed as naive; yet those that appear simple, when explored properly, can reveal the very heart of the Universe.— And through studying them, one may come to understand the force behind all change in the World—or in the seemingly mundane events of human life, such as birth, growth, and death.

The fourth Sage was a man of few words.

— After all, we ourselves were once ordinary mortals. Yet by walking a certain path toward awakening higher consciousness and extraordinary abilities, by enduring failures and gaining the experience of immortality, we became those who now assist the beings living on Earth.

— We must not allow our help to become a failed experiment.— We must not let it come to pass that we sign our own helplessness.— Humans dream and believe in miracles and magic. But what we must give them is UNDERSTANDING— an understanding of what is happening, through which they may experience the joy granted by the Light of Great Knowledge.

— The World is growing worse; it is aimlessly sinking into the decay of the quality of Energy. — For humans, it will be a staggering revelation to suddenly realize that all the changes unfolding around them are manifestations of this very degradation.— The driving spring of the Universe is its unstoppable decay, as energy and matter dissipate, dissolving into disorder.

— All changes that are taking place form a vast web of interconnected events.— On Earth, a certain system has been established—one that leads to the destruction of all living things.— To sustain their civilization, humans extract from the Earth’s core, leaving behind voids of colossal scale.— The Earth’s orbit could be lost, and with it, the downfall of the entire Universe may follow.— By burning what they have drawn from beneath the Earth and filling the atmosphere with death, humans can only dream of immortality.

After these words, the eighth Sage began to speak.

— Everyone knows I do not speak last by chance.— Next time, I, the Keeper of Time, will speak first, and the one who spoke before me will become the Eighth and fulfill the task appointed to him. That is our Rule.— But for now, I represent the Eighth Immortal, and so it is my turn to enter the Fourth Dimension... and help these remarkable people.

— Yes, we know exactly what is happening to them—and what is yet to come.— Allow me a moment of wonder: that some boy from Liverpool, who was merely learning to play his grandfather’s old guitar, somehow managed to become entangled in such events...— If I weren’t Immortal myself, I’d never believe it.

— Then again, a certain unknown girl has written a book about this story... including us—Eight Immortal Sages.— How she came to know all this, and from whom, does not matter.— Though, judging by your smiles... I am beginning to understand who is helping her.

Everything vanished. Dissolved into the fabric of Space — As if it had never been at all...
