The Day of Submission

The college lab was quiet, but her heart was full of worry.

She was busy working on her science project, and today was the last day to submit it.

She had worked on it for many weeks, and now everything depended on these few hours.

Her hair was gathered into a careless messy bun, with a few loose strands framing her face like whispered secrets. She wore a simple plain T-shirt and gently printed pants, yet on her, even simplicity felt beautiful. There was a dreamy softness about her, a kind of beauty that did not ask to be noticed but was impossible to ignore.

Her eyes were truly beautiful—deep, gentle, and full of quiet emotion. She hid her beautiful eyes behind her specs, as if unaware of the magic they held. She looked like a quiet moment, like a peaceful thought that stays with you. Her smile felt like comfort, and her heart seemed made of pure kindness. Anyone who looked at her for more than a moment felt drawn closer, as if her presence itself was a gentle spell.

She was in her third year of college, and this project was very important for her future. A few of her friends were there with her, helping her finish it before the deadline. They laughed, shared ideas, and worked together.

She had never been in a relationship.

Love, for her, was something she had only seen in movies and books. Her parents were loving and supportive, but they believed in traditional values. They were not ready to accept a love marriage.

Because of this, she had made a promise to herself—she would never do anything that could hurt her parents. She loved them deeply, and they had always stood by her side.

But life does not always follow the rules we make.

That day, she had no idea that something was about to change. She did not know that her heart was standing at the edge of a new story.

Sometimes, the most beautiful stories begin on the most ordinary days.

And now, it was finally time to submit the project.

The quiet college lab slowly filled with movement as students lined up one by one, holding their projects close, each of them silently hoping their hard work would be chosen. The air was thick with nervous excitement. Everyone dreamed of the same thing—the science fair.

The science fair was not just an event. It was an opportunity. Projects selected here would be displayed among entries from many colleges, turning it into a serious competition. The students who secured first, second, or third place would earn not only recognition but also strong marks on their resumes—marks that could shape their future.

She stood in line, her fingers slightly trembling, her heart beating faster with every step forward. Weeks of effort had led to this moment.

“Yes, Miss Emma Avery,” the professor said, looking up from the table. “Please explain your project.”

At that moment, she stepped forward—nervous, hopeful, and unaware that this ordinary college day was quietly becoming the beginning of something extraordinary.

“Yes, sir,” Emma replied softly, holding the information file of her practical model close to her chest. She took a deep breath and looked at the model neatly placed on the table in front of her.

Emma explained her work calmly, answering every question with honesty and confidence. When she finished, the professor nodded and made a note.

Emma stepped out of the classroom with a small smile still on her face, the kind that came only after quiet relief. The tension she had been holding all morning finally eased, and for a moment, she allowed herself to breathe—and laugh softly.

Lily noticed it first. “Oh wow,” she said, folding her arms with a grin, “look at that smile. I knew it. You nailed it, didn’t you?”

Emma shook her head, trying to sound casual. “It went… fine.”

Ryan chuckled. “Fine?” he repeated. “Emma, the professor nodded. That man barely nods at anyone.”

Emma exhaled softly, the smile on her lips fading just a little. “Still… we won’t know if the project is selected or not.”

Lily’s expression softened. “What do you mean?”

“The science fair,” Emma said, adjusting the file in her hands. “They’ll announce the selected projects in three or four days.”

Ryan nodded slowly. “So now comes the hardest part—waiting.”

Emma gave a small laugh, though it carried a hint of nervousness. “Yeah. I think I’d rather present again than wait that long.”

Lily reached for her hand reassuringly. “Hey, whatever happens, you gave it your best.”

“There’s only one project being selected from the entire college to go to the science fair,” Ryan said. “And if you ask me, it’s going to be yours.”

Emma looked at him, surprised. “Ryan…”

Lily smiled, squeezing her hand gently. “He’s right. Out of everyone here, your project stands out. You didn’t just make a model—you put your heart into it.”

Emma let out a soft breath and smiled, shaking her head. “Fine,” she said at last. “Whatever it is, it’s out of my hands now. Let’s go and have some fun.”

Lily’s eyes lit up instantly. “Finally! I was waiting for you to say that.”

Ryan laughed. “Dinner’s on me then.”

Lily Parker had been Emma Avery’s closest friend since school, a constant presence through every phase of her life. She knew Emma’s world better than anyone else.

Ryan Mitchell entered their lives in college and slowly became someone they both trusted. Over time, his friendship with Emma turned into quiet feelings he never rushed to name. Emma sensed it, Lily understood it, yet no one spoke of it—not only because Emma feared losing their friendship, but also because she had promised her parents to stay away from love and focus on her goals. He also knew about Emma’s promise to her parents, and so he chose silence, caring for her quietly, respecting her boundaries, and never asking for more than she was ready to give.

The evening passed easily, filled with laughter, shared food, and moments that helped Emma forget the weight of waiting. By the time she returned home, the house felt calm and familiar.

The moment Emma stepped inside, she spotted her father in the living room. Without a second thought, she ran toward him and wrapped her arms around him tightly.

“Hey,” Mr. Avery laughed, surprised but pleased. “What’s this for?”

“Just because,” Emma said, smiling against his shoulder.

He pulled back slightly, studying her face. “So,” he asked, raising an eyebrow, “how did the project submission go?”

Emma shrugged. “It went well. Now we just have to wait.”

Mr. Avery leaned back with a playful smile. “Should I meet your professor and personally request him to select your project?”

Emma’s eyes widened. “Nooo!” she said quickly, half laughing, half embarrassed.

Mr. Avery chuckled. “Relax, I’m joking. I know my daughter can handle things on her own.”

Emma laughed, the tension finally melting away. “You always do this,” she said, shaking her head.

Mr. Avery laughed along with her, and for a moment, the room echoed with shared laughter—easy, familiar, and full of comfort that only a father and daughter could understand.

Emma’s father was the top richest man in the country, a name known for power, influence, and success. Yet at home, titles meant nothing. He shared a rare, friendly bond with Emma—one built on trust, laughter, and honest conversations. To him, she was never an heir or an expectation, just his daughter.

Emma lived with her mother and father, their only child, in a beautiful house tucked away in the calm elegance of San Francisco—surrounded by quiet streets, tall trees, and a view of the city that glowed softly at night.

Emma’s room reflected her perfectly—simple, calm, and quietly beautiful. Soft sunlight fell over her study desk and a small stack of well-loved books beside it, including a few dark romance novels tucked between academic texts. Gentle tones and the comforting presence of books made the room feel peaceful—a space where ideas rested and dreams slowly grew.

The next two days passed slowly, filled with forced calm and small attempts to relax. Emma tried to distract herself—reading, studying, doing nothing at all—but the thought of the result never truly left her mind.

On the third morning, she was still asleep, curled comfortably on her soft bed, her blanket wrapped around her like she had no worries in the world. Her room was quiet, peaceful… almost too peaceful.

Her mother quietly opened the door and smiled at the sight. She walked closer and gently shook her shoulder.

“Emma… wake up.”

Emma groaned softly, pulling the blanket over her face. “Five more minutes, Mom…”

Her mother chuckled. “Get up. You have guests.”

Emma peeked out lazily. “Who comes this early—”

Before she could finish, she heard familiar voices from downstairs—excited, loud, impossible to ignore.

Her eyes widened.

She sat up suddenly. “Lily? Ryan?”

At that very moment, Lily’s voice floated up, full of excitement, “Emma Avery, if you don’t come down right now, I swear I’m coming up there myself!”

Emma’s heart skipped. Sleep vanished. Something felt different.

And deep down, before anyone said a word—

she already knew.

The next moment, her door flew open.

Lily rushed in first, barely able to contain herself, with Ryan right behind her, smiling just as wide. Emma stared at them, confused and breathless.

“What—what’s going on?” she asked.

Lily didn’t answer. She simply grabbed Emma’s hands, eyes shining. Ryan stepped forward, his voice calm but full of excitement.

“Emma,” he said softly, “your project… it’s been selected.”

For a second, the room went completely still.

Emma blinked. “What?”

Lily laughed, almost shouting, “You’re going to the science fair!”

Emma pulled back slightly, still smiling, her eyes shining. “But… how did you know?”

Lily exchanged a quick glance with Ryan, practically vibrating with excitement. “Because,” she burst out, grinning ear to ear, “your professor personally called the department this morning!”

She clapped her hands, unable to stay still. “The whole department was talking about it, Emma!”

Ryan laughed, his eyes bright as he added, “And the moment we heard your name, we didn’t even wait. We ran straight here.”

Emma let out a breathy laugh, her hand flying to her mouth as the reality finally sank in—this wasn’t a dream. This was real.

The room was still buzzing with excitement when Emma’s mother, who had been standing quietly near the door, smiled at the three of them—her eyes soft with pride.

“Alright, you excited people,” she said warmly, laughing at their energy. “How about we take all this happiness downstairs and turn it into a proper celebration?”

Lily clapped again. “Yes! A victory breakfast!”

Ryan nodded with a grin. “Best idea of the morning.”

Emma looked at her mother, her smile turning softer, fuller. “Happy breakfast?” she asked.

Her mother nodded. “Happy breakfast.”

And with laughter still echoing through the room, Lily and Ryan headed downstairs first. Emma stayed back, smiling to herself as she slipped out of bed, brushed her teeth in a hurry, and skipped the shower altogether—too excited to waste a single minute. Moments later, she followed them downstairs, her happiness still glowing brighter than anything else in the house.

At the dining table, they were enjoying breakfast together—Emma’s parents across from her, Lily and Ryan beside her—laughter and easy conversation filling the space. The mood was light, happy, and warm.

Suddenly, Emma’s phone buzzed against the table.

She glanced at the screen, her smile slowly fading into surprise. “It’s… my professor.”

The table went silent as she answered the call.

“Yes, sir,” Emma said softly, her fingers tightening around the phone.

His voice carried clearly enough for her smile to slowly grow. He congratulated her again, officially confirming the selection, and then added the words that made her heart race.

“You’ll be representing the college at the science fair in New York,” he said. “You’ll need to leave in five days.”

Emma’s breath caught.

When the call ended, she looked up, eyes shining. “It’s official,” she whispered. “I’m going to New York.”

She turned to Lily, hesitation flickering for just a second before hope took its place. “Lily… will you come with me? As my helper. I don’t think I can do this alone.”

Lily’s answer came instantly, her smile wide and sure. “Of course I will. There’s no way I’m letting you go to New York without me.”

Emma laughed softly, relief and happiness washing over her as she reached for Lily’s hand.

Everything felt settled, almost perfect. Yet somewhere beyond their excitement, five days away in New York, something unexpected was already waiting—something Emma couldn’t see yet, but would soon change how she understood everything she believed she wanted.
