Chapter one: Esme
18-year-old Esme Rose Winters definitely had a rough start to her turbulent life. She was constantly reckless, getting expelled from various schools due to numerous fights. Her father was never on the scene. Sure, he appeared once or twice whenever he really wanted to. Perhaps mostly for his own agenda or to make himself feel like he was doing something? His motives were unclear, but for Esme, all she had was an exasperated mother who had all but given up on her.
And that was how Esme ended up on the streets after the latest bust-up with her mother, who threw her out along with her stuff on the streets.
She was now truly alone, angry and desperate and with no one to turn to, no one could have guessed the events that would’ve unfolded from the latest of Esme’s reckless actions, because let’s be frank, Esme has done a lot of stupid things in her life, but this one.. this one was the worst of them all.
And so, here is what happened. She had spent hours wandering the streets with anger and deep sadness, and despair, and needed to vent her frustration in some way. She sees an abandoned baseball bat and picks it up as she carries it in one hand and her clothes in a bin liner in the other. She walks by a local bar, and to her surprise, she sees a rather expensive car.
A bright red Lamborghini just sitting outside the bar, almost ripe for the picking. She didn’t know who owned the car or if the person really was rich or not, but she didn’t care. In that moment, she saw red, and everything that she went through in her whole life just hit her in that moment, and she used the baseball bat and smashed the bright red Lamborghini up.
Her blonde hair hits her face as she screams with every hit onto the car, her bubbling frustration flowing out as pools of tears stream out of her deep blue eyes down her face. In her eyes, the abandonment of her father and now her mother is what led her here when all she wanted was security and to be loved. She wasn’t a bad girl not really but she needed the guidance from her parents to keep her on a steady path and when she didn’t have that.. chaos consumed her through reckless actions like drinking and partying and now here she is.. committing a crime by damaging someone’s property.. a crime she would never ever have committed if she had a different life but here we are..
She looks up to see a man with jet black hair and in a posh, lavish suit, all suited and booted, but she didn’t get a good close-up look at him as he yells. “Hey, what do you think you’re playing at?!” She gasps as she drops the baseball bat and grabs her bag of clothes as she runs in fear, both afraid and full of remorse for what she’s done. She hears him running after her, “Hey! Come back here, girl, now!”
Esme runs, almost tripping over as she ducks into an alleyway. She breathes heavily and stands there listening as she realises that he can’t find her, and he gives up looking for her and walks away. Esme breathes a sigh of relief that she didn’t know that she was holding, but what she didn’t know is that relief was short-lived.
