New Chapter of Life

“Ah, you mean Eleri? Yes, she’s doing well,” the women said, shifting slightly on the bed and pulling the blanket closer around her shoulders.

“That would be nice,” she added after a pause. “She’ll finally have some company again, like before.”

Still holding the phone to her ear, she walked toward the kitchen where the evening sun rested quietly on the marble slab. She placed the call on speaker and set the phone near the microwave.

“What course is he planning to take?” she asked, reaching for a plate.

A faint clatter echoed from the other side before a voice replied, “He says he wants to do B.Tech in Computer Science.”

She poured a thin stream of oil into the pan. “Hmm. That’s good. She’ll be happy to hear that.”

“It’ll be easier for them to stay in touch too,” the other woman said.

“Yes,” she smiled faintly. “Even though she’s already in her second year, at least she’ll have someone familiar.”

There was a softer tone now. “It would be good if she could keep an eye on him.”

A quiet chuckle. “And he can keep an eye on her as well.”

The call ended soon after.

Outside, the evening faded gently.

Somewhere, without knowing it, two lives were about to overlap again.
