Summary

1 ━ La costura

La habitación de Kiraya siempre olía igual: a lavanda sintética y a algo más denso, dulce y pesado. Miel vieja, quizá. O polvo de talco acumulado en los pliegues de las cortinas que nunca se abrían del todo.

Tenían doce años y el agosto de Haiska aplastaba el asfalto tres pisos más abajo.

Sorana estaba sentada en el borde de la cama. Lloraba en silencio, con esa fealdad de quien intenta no hacer ruido para no molestar. Su madre había olvidado su cumpleaños. Otra vez. El olvido ese año no dolía como un golpe, sino como una amputación; la certeza absoluta de ser invisible.

Kiraya no la abrazó.

Se mantuvo de pie frente a ella, con las rodillas rozando las de Sorana. Llevaba el uniforme del colegio, aunque hacía meses que habían acabado las clases. La falda plisada estaba impoluta. La camisa blanca, abrochada hasta el último botón. Kiraya extendió una mano y le tocó la mejilla. Sus dedos estaban fríos, secos. No limpió la lágrima. La arrastró despacio hasta la barbilla mientras observaba el rastro húmedo con una atención clínica. Como quien comprueba la madurez de una fruta antes de abrirla.

—Estás roja —dijo Kiraya. Su voz no tenía compasión, solo una curiosidad tranquila—. Te vas a hinchar.

—No puedo parar —balbuceó despacio Sorana. El aire le raspaba la garganta.

Kiraya se inclinó. Su pelo, un corte bob negro y geométrico, rozó la frente de Sorana. Olía a limpio. A un orden inalterable.

—Da igual que ella se olvide —susurró—. Yo te veo.

Sorana levantó la vista. Los ojos de Kiraya eran pozos de tinta, enormes en su cara pálida. No parpadeaba. Había una intensidad en su mirada que a Sorana le provocó un escalofrío en la nuca, un vértigo repentino. No era consuelo. Era gravedad.

—¿Me ves?

—Claro. —Kiraya se llevó el dedo índice a la sien y dio dos golpecitos suaves, rítmicos—. Aquí existes.

Kiraya se llevó la mano al dobladillo de su falda y desenganchó el imperdible metálico que sujetaba un pliegue suelto. El metal brilló bajo la luz anaranjada del atardecer. Se sentó en el colchón, que cedió bajo su peso pluma, y tomó la mano izquierda de Sorana. Le dio la vuelta. La palma hacia arriba. Indefensa.

—Para siempre —dijo seria Kiraya.

No preguntó. No pidió permiso.

Clavó la punta del imperdible en la yema de su propio meñique. Un punto rojo, brillante y perfecto, brotó al instante. Sorana contuvo el aliento, fascinada por la violencia minúscula del gesto. Después, Kiraya acercó la aguja al meñique de Sorana.

—Te va a doler un poco.

El pinchazo fue agudo, caliente. Sorana no retiró la mano. Vio su propia sangre salir y sintió un alivio extraño, como si el dolor físico anulara el hueco en el pecho. Kiraya presionó su dedo contra el de Sorana. Las sangres se mezclaron, sucia y maravillosamente.

Silencio.

La habitación pareció contraerse alrededor de ellas. Las paredes empapeladas con flores azules respiraron. El aire se volvió estático, cargado de electricidad. Kiraya sonrió. Fue una sonrisa pequeña, privada, que no llegaba a los ojos.

—Ya está —dijo, y se chupó el dedo para limpiar la herida—. Ahora no puedes irte. Aunque quieras.

Sorana miró su propio dedo, la pequeña costura invisible que acababa de nacer. Por primera vez en todo el día, se sintió segura. A salvo del olvido, anclada por fin a algo sólido.
