Chapter 1
All she could see were the bodies of greedy people scattered around her, their stillness pressing down on her like a heavy fog. Her mind drifted helplessly to a distant memory. the day her father had proudly carried home that broken old almirah, smiling as if it were treasure, while she had stood beside him, too young to understand their quiet struggles. The present snapped back into place as darkness swam at the edges of her vision. She was about to faint. Her left leg lay crushed beneath the weight, throbbing with a pain so sharp it barely felt real anymore.
