Prolouge
The day had been off all day; it was gloomy outside, there were not many cars on the roads, and lines in the stores were shorter than normal on the northside of Jacksonville, Florida. I have been at my new yoga studio all day trying to find something to do, but something kept pulling at me; it was like I needed to be somewhere, but where was that? I teach the girls how to do yoga to help with balance and concentration. These girls have a hard time in school with confidence and are just trying to figure themselves out.
I was a little girl at one point, and I wish I had something like this growing up, and I probably would have made better choices. I was getting ready to end class, and I wanted to check in on my baby sister, who was having a baby, but instead, there were five missed calls from "Heat Ultra Lounge." My heart dropped into my ass, literally. I threw the towel across my shoulder and picked up the phone out of my Mawuli Purse. As I picked it up, it began to ring again. I held it in my hands, unable to decide if I wanted to answer or to know what the person on the other end wanted, and it could only be one person who was doing this
"Chocolate?" said the voice on the other end of the phone call
" Sunshine, I told you, I don't go by that name anymore, and why are you blowing my phone up like that?" said Angela
"oh yea, my bad, but you might wanna get up here to the Heat," said Sunshine
"Why? What's going on that you can't tell me over the phone?"
"Girl, Ace is being busted, somebody told somebody, and snitched on him," gossiped Sunshine
Well damn, I thought to myself, and I also thought I would feel bad when things fell through. Heat Ultra Lounge was a hole-in-the-wall until I showed up. Girls lost their way in that place, including myself; no one cared for them. After his mother Naomi passed away, Ace had been the owner for five years. She ran this place well, and since Ace has been in charge, he has recruited over 500 girls and has lowered their standards.
He made money off of them and fucked their life up with drugs, sex, and magic. It has taken me 20 minutes to get to the lounge, and I parked far away from the chaos, so no one would recognize my car. Moments later, I see the police walking Ace out in handcuffs. I wore a hat and shade,s but that didn't work. Ace had my body so many times, he could tell it from a mile away. Ace looked me dead in my face and winked his right eye. I had seen that wink several times before, and whoever it was for was not going to be around for too much longer. Although I had trauma before I met Ace, I still allowed him to run me for eight years. By running away and praying, I do not know how I would have moved forward. Here are my confessions.
