Chapter 1: The Journey begins

Sitting on the bus, my mind drifted far away.

I have always been someone who overthinks.

And with the speed the bus was moving, I wondered whether we were flying...

or driving.

In this country, nobody really cares about speed.

Well, some places do.

But most people only start caring

when something goes wrong.

Scary thoughts crept in.

If something were to happen to me,

How would my family feel?

I had always struggled with thoughts like that.

I shook my head, trying to push them away.

I hated being in anything that moved too fast.

It was Christmas.

Joy was written all over people's faces.

I couldn't remember the last time

I was thrilled.

Whenever I took a selfie,

I would zoom in

and study my eyes.

It didn't matter if I was smiling or not,

You could always see the sadness

buried deep within them.

To be honest,

This journey was my escape

from problems

I didn't know how to face.

I called my mum again,

But she didn't pick up.

She had said she was going somewhere

and told me to call

Once the journey started.

Bless her.

She was always paranoid

about me traveling alone.

Nineteen.

Almost twenty.

It didn't matter

She was still worried.

I liked traveling,

But I hated the risks.

Most drivers here exceeded the speed limit,

and calling her even when she didn't answer

helped calm my nerves.

She didn't know it,

But she had always been

the peace

to my storm.
