Prologue

We all feel it deep within, a tugging sensation. It lies within the midst of our chests. It beckons, it calls and occasionally is sings an alluring melody. We can feel it when our adrenaline is pumping or when our heart is thundering.

Yes, it lies in the chambers of hearts. In the sparks of our soul.

I call it passion. Everyone has a passion, whether they realize it or not.

I asked myself when I was younger what do you truly love?

I answered back "exploration".

That is why, I sit behind a customer service desk at a Mom and Pop drug store in an unsavory part of town.

I wanted to be an archeological mastermind.

The world decided I needed to argue with people about their Rx coupons.

My fingers twitched anxiously on the computer keyboard, no doubt mistyping the 85 year old customers name wrong for the third time.

"Mrs. Abramovitz, please be patient with me. Are you certain you do not have your I.D on you?" I questioned her again, trying to get out of asking her to repeat herself. She glared back at me and cursed in yiddish.

"Your manager, now." She hissed, shaking her cane.

"Right, my apologies Ma'am." I replied with a small roll of my eyes and turned, going to get Roger.

Needless to say, my day only got worse from there. By worse, I mean Mrs. Abramovitz knew the owners of the pharmacy personally and despite working there for 6 years, I was fired for my inability to "problem solve" and recent customer complaints.

As if it had been my fault their customer base was all nearly blind, deaf or way past their expiration date.

So, here I was. Dreaming about the discoveries I'd be making while spelunking in some cave in Mexico. If only I had finished my Bachelors in Archeology. I had cheap margarita mix right out of the bottle, student debt on my left and my ass on a busted lawn chair in my backyard.

I raised the bottle to the stars, "I wish my life was entirely different. I wish I could have that adventure of my life. Jesus help me, I wish..." I sighed, shaking my head. The stars winked at me in reply, mocking the unattainability of my dreams.
