📖 Chapter 1: The Train and the Mysterious Girl

The hot day was slowly fading into evening, and gray clouds began to cover the sky. The wind swept along the ground, dragging dust across the highway as a sunset-colored convertible raced down the road without restraint.

Behind the wheel was him — a wealthy young man привыкший к беззаботной жизни. Everything had always been within his reach. The world obeyed his desires, and death had always seemed distant… almost fictional.

“Death? It means nothing to me!” he shouted over the roar of the engine.

His friends laughed, echoing his reckless confidence. It was just another ordinary day for them — speed, loud laughter, and complete disregard for danger.

But this day was preparing something different.

On the horizon, near the roadside, a girl appeared. Her figure shimmered in the heated air like a mirage. He noticed her only for a moment.

And in that instant, everything stopped.

Time itself seemed to slow, and his gaze drowned in her dark blue eyes. Deep. Captivating. Impossible to escape. Those eyes pulled him forward, and suddenly he could no longer hear anything — not his friends’ laughter, not the engine, not even his own breathing.

Then someone screamed:

“Hey! You’re in the opposite lane!”

The spell shattered.

He jerked the steering wheel violently, barely avoiding an oncoming car. His heart froze as the convertible swerved back into its lane before screeching to a halt, tires screaming against the asphalt.

He jumped out of the car, overwhelmed by panic. The air felt unbearably heavy, as if every breath reminded him how close he had just come to dying. His heart pounded wildly, his legs trembling beneath him.

His friends stepped out as well, shaken to the core. Instead of jokes or insults, there was only fear in their eyes.

“What happened to you?” one of them asked quietly.

He lifted his head, breathing heavily, staring into the emptiness ahead.

“I saw her…”

He took a few steps away, trying to understand what had just happened. The image of those cold eyes refused to leave his mind, as if her presence had carved itself into his thoughts.

At some point, Mark stopped, overcome by a strange exhaustion. He closed his eyes for only a moment, trying to calm himself.

But when he opened them again—

the world had changed.

He was no longer standing on the road.

A train carriage surrounded him. Wooden benches. Metal handrails. Everything felt unreal, impossible.

Where am I? How did I get here?

There was no familiar sound of wheels against rails — only silence. Heavy, waiting silence. The train felt empty… like a place between worlds.

Then came a sharp click.

A door opening.

His heart began to race as he slowly turned toward the sound.

And he saw her.

Saniya.

She stood in the doorway, smiling gently, watching him with the same calm, cold gaze — as if death itself had chosen to appear with a beautiful smile. There was peace in her eyes. Inevitability.

And in that moment, he understood.

There was no escaping her.

After a long silence, Saniya spoke. Her voice was soft, almost a whisper, as if trying to calm him — yet beneath that calmness lingered something unsettling.

“Easy… easy… Who are you?”

Mark’s thoughts scattered. Nothing made sense anymore. Instinctively, almost desperately, he shouted:

“I… I’m Mark!”

Saniya smiled again — a faint, mesmerizing smile touched with quiet mockery.

She said nothing more.

She simply turned and walked away, slowly disappearing into the endless emptiness surrounding them.

“Wait!” Mark shouted, running after her.

Her quiet laughter echoed through the air — soft, almost comforting, yet deeply unsettling.

He hurried forward, refusing to lose sight of her.

Finally, she stopped.

And what he saw made him freeze.

Two doors stood before them.

One filled with light.

The other swallowed by shadow.

Saniya stood silently before them, still smiling.
