The Final Attendance

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

At seventeen, Lily Campbell has learned how to survive. She survives the whispers. She survives Valerie Ross. She survives the memories of her mother’s screams and the blood that stained her childhood. But when her best friend Anna disappears after a fight, survival turns into obsession. Students begin vanishing one by one. A bully. A boyfriend. A girl who got too close. And every time attendance is called, another name goes unanswered. Lily is determined to uncover the truth—no matter how dark it gets. But the deeper she digs, the more time she can’t account for. The more bruises she can’t explain. The more familiar the clues begin to feel. Someone is targeting the people who hurt her. And Lily is starting to fear the truth: What if she isn’t hunting the monster? What if she is the monster?

Chapter 1 -Lili's POV

Blood trickled down my arm as I clenched the jagged pieces of my mother’s pendant.

It cut into my skin, but I didn’t let go.

Valerie Ross stood in front of me, unapologetic.

She broke it.

She broke the last thing I had of my mother.

I lost my mother when I was two.

The memories don’t come clearly. They come in flashes—

Her screams.

My father’s anger.

Blood.

His hands.

And silence.

The rest of the day passed like a blurred photograph. The only thought that stayed sharp in my mind was Anna.

She didn’t come to school today.

Anna, with her perfect attendance. Anna, who never missed a single class. We had a fight yesterday, but she wouldn’t skip school over something like that. She wasn’t childish.

She was—

My phone vibrated in my hand.

Anna’s Mom.

A cold feeling settled in my stomach as I answered.

“Hello?”

“Sweetie, have you seen Anna? Is she with you? She didn’t arrive home last night.”

The words didn’t register at first.

Didn’t arrive home.

Anna is missing.

My heartbeat slowed instead of racing.

“No, Auntie. I haven’t seen her since yesterday,” I said calmly.

Too calmly.

“Oh… okay, dear. Goodbye.”

Her voice trembled before the line went dead.

I stared at my reflection in the black screen of my phone.

Why couldn’t I remember what happened after our fight?

The unexpected twists kept me guessing till the end. The tension builds perfectly, and every chapter leaves you wanting more. If you enjoy mysteries filled with secrets and shocking revelations, this book won’t disappoint.

When I read this, I honestly felt uncomfortable — but in a good way. The story made me feel tense and curious at the same time. From the beginning, I felt sympathy for Lily because of her painful childhood, but as the story continued, I slowly started questioning her. That’s what made it so powerful for me.The way the memories were written in short, broken lines made everything feel more real and disturbing. I could almost feel Lily’s confusion. When Anna disappeared, my mind immediately started guessing what happened. But the biggest moment for me was when Lily couldn’t remember what happened after the fight. That part gave me chills. The twist idea — that maybe she isn’t hunting the monster but might be the monster — really shocked me. It made me rethink everything I had just read. Overall, I felt tense, curious, and slightly unsettled while reading it, which is exactly what a good thriller should do. I’m honestly impressed, especially knowing the author is only fourteen.
