Prologue-Rune

She was always his, his purple rose of the night

He watched as her beautiful figure took flight, leaving village and family behind. He smiled for Seren was going to the Hawthorn tree where they'd first met. But tonight was a somber one for she had lost her mother a day ago, and was now alone with a drunk Older brother. For Rune of the Court of Shadows, that meant Seren could truly be his, and he needn't say a word to the drunkard who often slept in the Street of the village.

Seren was his woman, and he'd do anything to care for her and Shower her with the love she deserved. Rune transported himself with his portal magic to their Hawthorn tree Just as Seren came running to stand before it and him.

“I am so pleased you came to me woman,” Rune told Seren giving her a big smile.

But Seren didn’t smile back and tears slid down her cheeks. He frowned and asked, “What troubles you lass?”

“Willow, the Village priestess has married me off this night to a blacksmith named Bran,” Seren sobbed out.

Rune clenched a fist,” And did he touch you?”

“Aye, but I didn’t want him to, but Willow made certain he took my innocence, “ Seren told him as she hugged herself.

Rune growled out, “ you were Promised to me by your father, the elder woman knew this.”

“ I’m likely with child or soon will be,” Seren told him.

“Yes, there will be a child, and since you were taken from me then I cast a contract upon you, a promise that the next female child born of your blood line will be my mate, and no one can break this. She will be my Queen of the shadow court,” Rune explained to Seren, and the woman paled, “When that girl child is born she’ll be of half fae blood or be part of a shifter community. I’ve seen this in my vision, what’s done is done seren, and what’s done cannot be broken. Go to your new husband, never call upon Rune of the Court of Shadow ever again.”

With that he left the woman held loved and came back to his lonely castle. What he didn’t realize was that many centuries would Pass before he met the woman that’d be his, but he wound up learning patience and acceptance as those centuries passed one damn slow day at a time.
