CHAPTER 1
Lucy POV
I was finally here. At Oxford university, my scholarship gives me a year studying Law with full lodgings. When I got the paperwork about the accommodation I wasn’t expecting this. The building I’m standing in front of is so impressive, a wonderfully renaissance building with columns and large windows. Certainly nothing I would expect myself to live in… ever.
I’m beginning to feel out of place in my ripped jeans and cropped top, I glance around and see other students walk around in suits. I straighten my spin and remember that I worked my arse off to be here, studying in all my spare time. This is where I’m meant to be and I’ll own it.
Slinging my huge and heavy duffle bag over my shoulder I pull my two suitcases behind me over the cobbled path and drag them up the multiple stairs into the building.
I’m already out of breath and struggling and I’m only in the entrance way. I look up and see all the stairs, so many stairs! Leaving my suitcases in the entrance way, I begin to search for a lift. Nope, no lift. Typical.
The door to the building swings open and a tall blonde haired boy walks in. He’s sculpted as though he was made by the gods. My heart actually stops, he’s the best looking guy I’ve ever seen.
He slams straight into my suitcase, sending it crashing to the floor.
‘I’m so sorry!’ I yell, running over to move them out of the way ‘I was looking for a lift, I should have moved them. I’m sorry.’ I bend over to lift it out of the way and embarrassingly struggle to drag them out of his way.
He shoots a charismatic smile that is worthy of a Hollywood actor. ‘No harm done. Where are you going, I’ll help.’ His voice is so smooth that I almost find myself not listening.
‘Are you sure? That would be so helpful, thank you.’
My hands jam into my jean pockets and pull out a crumpled piece of paper listing my apartment. I show him it and watch as he reads it and his eyes lift to meet mine with intrigue. His eyebrow raises before he speaks again.
‘Interesting. Seems we’re roommates. I’m Conor.’ His smile is radiant and instantly soothes me. Roommates with him? I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a very bad thing.
‘Hi, I’m Lucy.’
‘Well Lucy, let’s get you settled in.’ On one smooth action he picks up both my suitcases as though they are empty and carries them up the many flights of stairs. God he’s strong.
Thank goodness I bumped into this muscled guy otherwise it would have taken all day to climb the stairs on my own.
On the third floor he stops outside the door to my new home for the year. I take a deep breath, I’m so excited I could squeal. He turns the handle and while pushing it open he speaks in that smooth voice again, ‘welcome home Lucy.’
I can’t help but beam a smile and as I step into the room my mouth goes wide. This is not like the brochure at all. The space is enormous, one wall is full of huge windows, the space has a huge tv and multiple sofas and chairs which look comfy enough to sleep on. A large coffee table with books scattered on it and then opposite the front door is a corridor, I assume leading to the bedrooms.
As I take another step into the room I turn right and my eyes instantly focus on a guy leaning against the kitchen worktop with a cup in his hand.
I stood gawking at him. I know I am but I can’t take my eyes off him or close my mouth. Hot damn, he is something else. I thought Conor was hot, but this guy makes my legs clamp together in need by just being. He is disgustingly handsome and sexy rolled into one.
His eyes are lingering on me as though he’s assessing me. There’s an intensity there which makes me want to squirm away but I can’t. I want him to stare at me. He looks me up and down, as though he’s seeing right under my clothes, my thighs slam together, he is the sexiest guy I’ve ever seen and my god I want him to see under my clothes.
His dark hair is wavy and falls slightly over his forehead, hair that would be even better ruffled up with exploring fingers. His body is something else, my god, he’s so hot. I can see the muscles through his t-shirt, the veins protruding down his arm to his strong hands. I dragged my focus back to his face to his eyes which were still exploring me, a beautiful dark green which glistened and made me want to get lost in them for eternity.
What the fuck is this place? He can’t possibly be my roommate too?!
‘Lucy this is Hunter.’ Conor says obviously aware of me staring. I close my mouth and try to focus so I can find the words to say hi without sounding like an idiot.
‘What on earth is this Conor?’ His voice is full of venom and hatred. It takes me aback. Those eyes which were curious are now staring at me with anger. What is going on?
‘It seems Lucy is our new roommate.’ He merely shrugs and begins to roll my suitcases to the corridor.
‘No. Take her away.’ I watch him approach Conor and grab my suitcases off him, I assume to push into the hallway.
Suddenly I’m snapped out of my admiration for him and I’m in fight mode. He is not kicking me out of my accommodation. I slam the door shut and cross my arms standing in his way.
‘Get your hands off my luggage. This is my accommodation, you don’t get to kick me out!’ He raised a brow at me which if I wasn’t so angry I would have thought was fucking hot.
‘And to be honest, you are being fucking rude.’
’Move.’ He almost growls it at me, god he’s a dick but that growl did something to me, my body liked it.
‘You’re being an arsehole! I will not move! You fucking move!’ My anger was fire through my body. He was making me tremble, my fists clenched at my side.
He merely tilts his head and rolls the suitcases at me. ‘Stay away from me.’ He says in a grumbled voice. He moves to one of the sofas and lays himself on it and begins to scroll his phone.
‘No problem.’ I say through gritted teeth.
I begin to drag my suitcases towards the corridor huffing and muttering under my breath. Who does he think he is?!
Conor was like a knight in shining armor effortlessly taking my suitcases and pulling them to a door in the corridor, without me asking. ‘This one’s yours.’ He motioned with his hand and a smile that would make any girl drop to her knees.
‘Thanks’ I mutter while turning the handle, trying hard to contain rage and tears. I will not let these supernaturally sexy guys see me cry though, no I’m tough and I can hold my own but fuck those sharp words hurt as did trying to kick me out! He doesn’t even know me.
‘You know Hunter, he’s not normally…’
‘A dick?!’ I blurted, still furious. He chuckled and ran his hand through his short hair as though he was uncomfortable.
‘Yeah. He’s a good guy, I don’t know what that was about.’
He looked genuinely confused by Hunter’s behaviour. I shrugged as though I didn’t care and walked into my new room. My mouth dropped, it was huge. It had a bed, which must have been king size. A bed my petite body would get lost in. There were two large windows like there were in the living area, underneath them was a large wooden desk. A huge wardrobe that is about three times too big for all my clothing and a beautiful dressing table just outside the door to the ensuite. Wow, the ensuite is amazing. It has green tiles, white marble floor and a walk in shower spanning the whole width of the room.
How did I luck out with this accommodation? I plonked down on the bed and just stared, I wanted to enjoy the moment, my new room, the new university, but all I could think about was him.
The way he looked at me with such intensity, I wanted him to stare at me again. I wanted to look at his strong jaw and absolutely perfect kissable lips. But he was a complete arsehole that I also wanted to punch right in the face.
Shoving off the bed I decided to use my bottled up tension to unpack and make myself at home.
