PROLOGUE
The chances of the boy you like liking you in a parallel universe is as slim as trying to toast bread under the sun. Sure, it feels possible. If you stand and squint for long, you’ll feel like somehow, someday, it’d slowly turn into a smooth crisp brown. Eventually you realize it's fruitless nonetheless. Especially when you had such high hopes, high hopes that that accidental touch meant something, eye contact that must have held something heavy. Something real. It's all a facade. When the sun sets you realize it's all been in your head.
The bread would never get toasted.
I’ve been in an unrequited love for a long time, for the longest time with my brother's best friend. My older brother's best friend. Who's about 5 years older than me. I mean, it’d be weird if he liked me back, considering the fact that I'm barely 15 but something inside me wishes he felt the same, pedophile as it may seem. Our worlds stretch so far apart and yet seemingly so near. He takes me to school, walks me back whenever he has the time. He has always been so close. But I can't tell him. I can't ever tell him how I feel. I’d rather die of a broken heart.
We’ll always be at different phases of our lives anyway. Even when he's 26 and I'm 20
