Serena Connor falls asleep in her ordinary life and wakes in a cage aboard an alien trafficking ship with other abducted women. After a violent crash strands them on the brutal world of Nhaeryth, Serena helps lead the survivors through freezing wilderness, strange predators, and the thin, singing air of an alien land. They are captured by the Aethrani, a beautiful and terrifying people whose empire is ruled by old sacred law, buried rivalries, and the belief that true bonds are revealed through resonance between souls. When Serena is brought into the Hall of Answering, the ancient stones do not answer a priest, courtier, or king. They answer Rhaevor, the war-scarred prince long regarded as dangerous, fractured, and half-cursed by his own people. Their bond awakens political panic, because Serena’s presence does more than threaten succession: it begins to expose the empire’s oldest lie. As Serena and Rhaevor fall into a fierce, mythic love, hidden archives, buried temples, and sacred song reveal that humans were never strangers to Nhaeryth, but part of a lost counterpart branch of an ancient harmony severed by imperial greed. Together they must survive court intrigue, priestly division, and dynastic war to reclaim truth, remake the law, and choose each other openly beneath the First Sky.
