My nightmare

Summary

She wasn’t supposed to be here yet. Just a law student—an intern, really—meant to observe, to learn, to stay quiet in rooms where power spoke louder than truth. But one file, one mistake, one detail no one else noticed… and suddenly she’s standing too close to something dangerous. The case isn’t hers. It belongs to people far above her—seasoned lawyers who know when to stop asking questions. But she doesn’t. She keeps digging. Missing evidence. Contradictions. Names that shouldn’t be connected but are. And now someone has noticed her. That’s why he’s there—her bodyguard. Not by choice, not at first. Just a precaution, they said. Just until things “settle.” But nothing about this is settling. He watches everything, says little, and somehow always knows when she’s about to step into trouble. Somewhere between late nights and quiet warnings, he becomes more than protection—he becomes the only place she feels safe. Still, she holds onto what she thinks is normal. Him. The one she calls her boyfriend. Gentle. Loving. Familiar. A break from the chaos. But she doesn’t see what’s underneath. Because while she’s chasing the truth in a case that could destroy careers—and lives—something far more unstable is circling closer, hiding behind a smile she trusts. Now she’s caught in something she was never meant to be part of. Not just a case. A game. And in a world where she’s the least powerful person in the room, she might also be the most exposed. Because the truth she’s searching for? It’s already searching for her.

Chapter 1

POV: Reece Eden

There he was. As i walked slowly towards him. I halted in my steps as another gun shot was fired, turning around to see him lying on the floor. My nightmare was over.

Start of college

"First year at college, what new adventure could be waiting for me?!" i thought as i walked into Harvard. On my first day of uni I met Jake Henderson, the man who started my nightmare. He was studying family law while i was studying criminal law. We both quickly grew close with childhood trauma and i was grateful to have him there. He was a really lovely person or so i thought. We spent every holiday together and i had had a lot of fun.

Three years into my degree, I was offered a job internship at the most prestigious law firm, Suits, owned by Preston Parker. He had interviewed me a few days ago. I thought i had failed but yesterday i got a phone call that said i had gotten my internship and that i had to start the next week. I called Jake to tell him the amazing news, and he too was happy and amazed to hear. He took me out for dinner that night, and we had an amazing time with each other. Jake was not like others. Later he drove me to the beach my favorite place and confessed his feelings toward me. I was ecstatic and shocked. He told me that he had feelings for me from the the first day we met. I told him that i also liked him and we start dating.
