Chapter 1The poet of the broken moon
The Poet of the Broken Moon
In a quiet town where the nights were always long and the wind carried stories through the trees, there lived a young woman named Amani. People in the town knew her as the girl who always looked at the moon.
Every night, while the village slept, Amani would sit outside her small house with a notebook and a pen. She would watch the moon shining in the sky and whisper words into the silence.
But Amani was not just watching the moon.
She was talking to it.
Years ago, Amani had fallen deeply in love with a young man named Zayd. He was kind, gentle, and full of dreams. They promised each other that one day they would build a life together.
Before leaving for the city to continue his studies, Zayd stood under the bright moon with Amani and said:
"No matter how far I go, this moon will always shine on both of us. When you miss me, look at the moon. I will be looking too."
From that night, the moon became their silent messenger.
Days turned into months, and months turned into years. At first, letters came from the city long letters filled with hope and promises.
Then the letters became shorter.
And one day… they stopped.
Amani waited.
She waited through rainy seasons and dry seasons. She waited through weddings, festivals, and new years. Every night she looked at the moon, hoping that somewhere far away, Zayd was looking at it too.
But deep inside her heart, she felt something breaking.
One evening, a traveler passed through the village with news from the city. As the villagers gathered around to listen, Amani heard the words that would change her life forever.
Zayd had married someone else.
The world suddenly felt silent. The wind stopped moving. The sky felt darker than ever before.
That night, Amani sat alone outside her house and looked at the moon.
For the first time, it did not feel whole anymore.
It felt broken.
Tears fell onto the pages of her notebook as she began to write.
She wrote about love that waited too long.
She wrote about promises that faded like old stars.
She wrote about hearts that still beat even after breaking.
Night after night, Amani filled page after page with poems.
Her words were not just about sadness—they were about strength, patience, and the quiet courage of someone who continues living even after losing something precious.
Soon, people in the village began hearing about her poems.
Travelers carried her words to other towns. Students copied her poems and shared them with friends. Slowly, her voice spread farther than she ever imagined.
People started calling her a new name:
“The Poet of the Broken Moon.”
But they did not know the truth.
The moon was never truly broken.
It only looked broken from the earth.
Just like Amani’s heart.
One night, as she looked at the sky again, she realized something important.
The same moon that watched her cry had also watched her grow stronger.
She smiled softly and whispered to the sky
"Thank you for staying with me when everyone else left."
From that night forward, Amani no longer wrote only about heartbreak.
She wrote about hope.
And somewhere in the quiet night, under the same shining moon, her words continued to heal hearts she would never meet.
Because sometimes the most beautiful poetry is born from the pieces of a broken moon
