Chapter 1
Vinita had always known she didn’t belong. Even in the bustling streets of Miravale, with its cheerful lights and smiling faces, she felt eyes watching her when no one was there. Her dreams were never ordinary—they were full of whispers, shadows, and a voice that called her name, always from somewhere she couldn’t see.
It started on her seventeenth birthday. A letter appeared on her windowsill, sealed with black wax and no return address. Inside, in ink that seemed to move slightly as she read it, were the words:
"The mirror waits. You cannot refuse."
Vinita didn’t know why, but she understood immediately. She knew the mirror—the one hidden in the ruins of the old Thorne Estate mansion. Everyone said it had been abandoned for decades, that it drove those who looked into it mad. But to Vinita, it felt like calling home.
That night, she slipped out under the cover of darkness. The mansion loomed like a dark sentinel. Broken windows and rusted gates whispered warnings, but she ignored them. Inside, dust choked the air, and the floor groaned under her weight.
And there it was: the mirror. Larger than life, its surface swirling like liquid smoke. Vinita’s reflection wavered, then twisted into someone—or something—else. Pale, hollow eyes stared back. And then the voice:
"Vinita… you belong to us now."
The words were not spoken, but pressed against her mind, leaving her shaking. She tried to step back, but the floor seemed to vanish. The mirror pulled her in, and suddenly she was somewhere else—a world of shadows and smoke, where twisted creatures watched from the edges of her vision.
One of them stepped forward, a tall figure cloaked in darkness. “You have the Sight,” it said. “You can see what we hide from humans. But power comes at a price.”
Vinita’s pulse hammered in her ears, but she felt no fear—only determination. “I’ll pay any price,” she whispered.
From that moment, her life became a battle between worlds. Shadows reached into her reality, secrets whispered from every corner, and Vinita had to master the power within her before it consumed her… or the hidden world destroyed everything she loved.
And so, the girl who had always felt out of place became the key to a war no one else could see. Every night, when the town slept, Vinita walked the line between light and darkness, discovering that her fate was far greater—and far darker—than she had ever imagined.
