The Beginning

The name is so weird I don't know how parents agree on calling their kids that

It was the middle of the ongoing session, and oh my god this new school looked like millions were invested in just the wall paint. I entered the class, but in jeans. I didn't get the entire uniform because they didn't have my size at the time.

My teacher said, "you can sit next to....... Amy." Yeah thanks a lot now how do I know who the fuck Amy is. I notice an empty seat next to a bubbly looking lass and hoped it was her. And thank god it was. She helped me with some crazy new student introduction shit, and left for practise.

The classroom was, weird. And cold. I did not approve of that cold ass Air Conditioner, but I figured visiting Antarctica was a dream anyway.

Classes went on, I was not new to this. Looking at unfamiliar faces, all in their own friend groups, and them asking me who I was, where I was from, why did I switch to a new school... etc etc. This was my 8th school anyway, my dad's constant intercity transfers had given me the gift of feeling at home in many cities.

Social Science teacher was just about to declare the previous test's results. A confident looking teen with dark curly hair randomly took the seat next to me.

"See you are pretty and all but all the good looking guys, myself included are either in a relationship and have a massive crush on some girl..... So, I am sorry to say this but you are late sweetheart."

I take a moment just to register what just happened, then finally reply, "Thanks, I guess."

He doesn't skip a beat and says "You know the passing mark for this test is a solid 27, but I only attempted for 20 marks, so I think I'm screwed."

"You sure are"

"Oh, and I am Damion by the way, Damion Ardent."

Pleasure, this random dude pretty much vented to me but hey he finally remembered to tell me his name, so polite. "Elara, Elara Nightwood." I say as I politely shake his hand. It's only a second until he gets up to check his test scores and celebrates as the polite teacher was generous enough to donate some marks to him. This was until my homeroom teacher Mrs. Warren returned, and the vibe died down again.

Mrs. Warren was distributing everyone's notebooks, taking their names. And then came a name, "Ayon......." What in the world did that one name do to me? I remember thinking to myself "The name is so weird I don’t know how parents agree on calling their kids that.."

"Ayon", the name means existence, literally! And here I still wonder why this name exists. But wait, there's a long story before I get to that, this was 15 years ago, in 2001, and little did I know, the journey forward was going to be a rollercoaster.

Anyway back to that day, I was used to hearing weird names before, in every school, and this was still better than names like "Madagasky" and "Aesthetic" (no offence though haha).

I had better things to worry about back then though. Moving on from my stupid ex boyfriend who made sure I am completely broken before I dumped him.

Ugh, the audacity of some students, no respect for anyone!

Well, weeks passed, months even. I had the image of the disciplined child in the eyes of the teachers, as always. But in this school, as any other 14 year old teen, my insecurities grew.

But hey, at least I was moving on from my ex. Then one day our teacher randomly goes “whoever hasn’t brought their text book will stand at the back of the class with their hands over their heads.” A bunch of students stood there, and I wasn’t one of them, I was always the nerdy one, but I like to believe I had a fun side too.

The class ends, and the teacher, Miss Rachel asks the punished children to go back to their seats. One didn’t. “Didn’t you hear what I just said young man?”

“Madam, respectfully, I seem to be enjoying this punishment.”

The entire class is silent, and there he was, Ayon Sinclair, with his shirt tucked out, transparent glasses that could fool anyone into thinking he's a nerd, strong built which was completely washed out by his weird demeanour, saying this to the already strict teacher with a smirk on his face. Everyone, myself included, questioned his sanity.

No questions asked, Miss Rachel orders him to stand that way for the rest of the day, and look at this shameless fellow, he smiles through it. DUDE, YOU’RE PUNISHED, SHOW SOME RESPECT.

I remember thinking to myself, “ugh, the audacity of some students, no respect for anyone!”

That day, I concluded, that Ayon Sinclair, was one of the not-so-good students from our class.

But what was going to happen the next day?

Mr. Ayon Sinclair comes up to me himself. "Hey, I heard you attend Mr. Wall's mathematics classes?"

A part of me, already disgusted and trying to avoid him, replies "Yes..... why what do you want?"

And without saying a single thing, bro storms off, like HELLO?

But who cares, I don't like this guy one bit, doesn't matter what he had in his mind that day... right?
