Prologue
On the bright and busy streets of Melbourne, a figure clocked in black made it’s way across the tops of lively bars and over crowed restaurants, hiding itself among the shadows as not to be seen by a curious eye. It was scanning the area with reddened, bloodstained eyes, looking among-st the swarms of people gathered near and far, hunting diligently for its next vulnerable meal. Not far below, a single girl, dressed in a white flowing gown caught it’s eye, as she moved gracefully down the street’s. She didn’t quite fit in with the people around her, dressed far to formally for just a simple night out with friends. The girl payed no attention to the many men who called out to her, nor to the disgruntled stares of the groups of lone woman she passed. She just stared straight ahead, not one foot out of step. Something about this woman captivated the beast, and despite knowing her petite size would barely satisfy it’s endless hunger for a week, it began to follow her. Further and further she walked, until the loud sounds and bright lights of the city were far behind, and the figure was about ready to turn and go back the way he had come. But then out of nowhere, the girl took a sharp turn down a shaded alleyway and faded into the darkness. By this point, alarm bell’s had begun to ring in the figures head. Normally, it would have run far away long before this point, but something about this girl pulled it towards her. Something in her eyes, her stickily sweet scent, the soft glow of her skin. Something dangerous and forbidden, but intoxicating and exhilarating. Though the figure knew the chance’s of this being a trap was high, at that moment, it no longer cared. It dropped from the ceiling of a closed clothing shop, landing with a soft ‘poof’, then darted across the street into the mouth of the alleyway. The mystery girl stood standing still but a few feet from it, her head tilted down and her arms laying lifelessly by her side. Without a moments hesitation, it flung itself forward grabbing her wrist, pulling the girl towards it. She let out a gasp but made no effort to fight. The figure pulled down the mask that had been covering it’s face to revel pointed, ghastly teeth dripping with black goo and skin so pasty and pale white, it would be a honest mistake to believe that it was a man risen from the dead. He traced a finger along her throat, tapping every so often till he found a spot he liked. The creature then tor into her neck, ripping a large chunk of her skin of and chugging it down his throat. But the creature soon came to release the grave mistake he had made, when instead of tasting the sweet, steady warmth of blood, he instead began to choke on the unmistakable taste that was moistly, bug ridden dirt. The girl in his hands crumpled into a heap of soil, bug’s wriggling in and out in a panic. The creatures heart began to thump, the captivating trance he had been in washed away, the reality of the danger he was in finally hitting him in full force. Without a second thought, the creature leaped high into the air, only to be greeted with a cold, solid object. Glass. And down he fell, smacking his head against the hard cement beneath him. From behind him, came a cold maniacal laugh. He sprung instantly to his feet again and rain forward to the mouth of the alleyway, only to be greeted by another pane of glass. “Are all you blood children this daft, or did I just have a lucky find?” The blood child turned to face his capture, reeling in shock once he saw who it was. The girl whom had crumbled before his very eyes now stood in the light of the moon, her icy eyes full of glee, her porcelain teeth shining through a wicked smile. “Hush hush my pet, don’t cry!” the girl cried mockingly as the blood child fell into a fit of ugly sobs. She walked towards him, dragging her finger along the wall besides her. “I just need some information from you, that’s all. Then your free to go!” Once the girl reached the blood child, she went down onto her knee’s before him. “How doe’s that sound?” She held out her hand, but to her dismay the blood child scattered from her, following the glass wall with his hand. After putting some distance between him and the girl, he fell to his knees and began to rock back and forth muttering “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” repeatedly to himself. There was a few moments of silence, before the girl got up, and began to prowl towards the blood child again. She shot out her arm, grasping him by the throat. He clawed at her hand with sharp, blackened nails, gasping desperately for air. “I tried to be nice, and look where it led me!” The girl yelled, irritated by the blood child’s lame attempts at escape. She threw him against the glass, beating his head into the smooth surface. “Maybe next time you’ll let me do what I want, instead of insisting I do it your way. Let a girl have some fun, Jesus!” She flung him against the wall a couple more times until she became bored, throwing the blood child to the ground. Where his head had connected with the glass, there was a large splatter of dark liquid, slowly rolling down in large, ugly clumps. The girl turned her head away, satisfied with mess she had made, focusing instead on the whimpering blood child that lay before her feet. He was breathing deeply, still muttering his apologies threw ragged breaths. “Ugh, he’s to far gone. No use to us.” she muttered. “Now only one thing left to do, to deal with a nasty mutt like you.” A giddish smile crept onto her face as her hand morphed into a long, sliver blade, glittering like star light in the moon. Kicking the man over, she placed the tip of the blade onto the man’s chest tapping gently at it’s centre. “Bye bye, my pet. It was fun playing with you.” Giggling, she swung her arm high, the blade rupturing deep into his chest. She brought it down again, and again, and again, giggling like a child. The man’s eye’s rolled back into his head, chocking violently on his own blood. But what the girl had said was true, he was far too gone to really comprehend what was going on. Though the pain was still there, and he still heard the thumping of the blade colliding with his ribs, it was growing forever faint. His was lost in a field of sunflowers, a woman with tanned skin, long flowing chestnut hair, a white long-brimmed sunhat, sitting gently upon her head. She was holding the hand of a young girl, her sky blue dress the same shade as her mother’s, who was pointing to the many birds that fluttered around them singing their sweet songs. The woman turned towards the man, throwing up her free hand, singling to him to go over to them, calling out word’s he could no longer remember. He walked towards them, rubbing his eye’s in disbelief. One foot went in front the other, and before he knew he was running straight into the arm’s of his beloved. A soft laugh left the woman’s mouth, as she welcomed him with open arms. He held tight, breathing in her familiar scent, before letting go. He bent down to the little girl, bringing her into a tight hug as well. She giggled, giving the man a gentle kiss on the cheek. The girl gently wiped away his tears, then gently placed her forehead against his own. “Clau-di-a…” the blood child gasped, the life slowly draining out of his eye’s. With one last thud, the girl drew back her arm. “Now now, what should I make of this.” she pondered, kicking at his lifeless corpse as the blade that protruded from her wrist slowly changed back into a hand. “Ah, I know!” And with that, she began to pick the blood child apart, humming happily to her self, proud of the mayhem the would followed suit once the wrong people found out what she’d done.
