In Love With His Smile
I have been in this Apartment for 3 months but still haven’t fully unpacked.
Laying on my bed, I stare at a blank wall.
Where did I put that box?
I get up and go hunting.
Where is he?
My Fantasy man?
Finding my target, I hang the heavy glass frame on the only hook.
Satisfied it is straight; I lay back down.
Somehow, I feel more at home with his photo on my wall.
It is familiar, comforting!
He has been with me for 4 years.
An image from a roll of Black and White film, that came from an old camera, I picked up at a pawn shop.
Even without looking I can see his face. A face that is imprinted in my mind! Like an old friend, or a family member!
I also have a very similar, image of girl somewhere! But I prefer to keep her picture packed away! Maybe because, I think it is his girlfriend! I try not to think about that!
I like to think he is single.
Do you think it is possible to be in love with a photograph?
I don’t know who he is and will never know.
So, I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway.
You might wonder why I like his portrait so much?
Sure, he is handsome, quite perfect really.
But the answer is simple! It is his SMILE!
One of those smiles that just makes you want to smile in return.
Wide with open lips, two rows of shining teeth. A smile that pulls tiny wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, a dimple in his cheek.
I have wondered for years, why he had been so happy that day. Was he laughing? Had been told a funny story? Had someone made a face?
This probably makes me sound crazy, but sometimes I talk to him!
Too long living alone. I sigh, and contemplate taking it back down.
Maybe it is time, to find someone to share my life.
To replace the face on my wall, with a face I can touch.
With a SMILE, I can KISS!
