Prologue

When we come into the world, alongside our awakening in the earthly plane, a mystical being also awakens in the spiritual plane. Its mission is to help us fulfill our purpose in life, providing us with the strength and wisdom needed to face every challenge that our existence brings. However, not all people are considered worthy of bearing a Nahual. For this reason, an ancient ritual has existed since ancestral times, performed once a year, when the first full moon of the year rises in the sky. The location of the ceremony is hidden from the eyes of ordinary humans, and can only be seen by the descendants of ancient bearers.

When the long-awaited night finally arrives, and the light of the moon creates an atmosphere of mystery, the wind blows softly, as if the world itself were holding its breath. A bonfire is lit, and beside it several circles of ash are placed, one for each child to be evaluated. The parents, filled with emotion and hope, hold their newborns in their arms. When the clock strikes midnight — the moment when the doors to the spiritual world open — the babies are gently placed in those circles, which symbolize the union between the earthly and spiritual planes.

The glowing embers emit a faint shimmer, and the crackling of the flames seems to whisper secrets to those present. Everyone’s hearts beat with a mixture of anxiety and nervousness. Suddenly, the ashes begin to scatter as if carried by a gentle breeze, transforming into radiant orbs of vibrant colors that reflect the essence of the protective spirit of each of the fortunate little ones. For them, the future is already written: they will be advisors, leaders, guardians.

For those who are not blessed with a nahual, the path becomes more difficult, but they are never alone; they always have the guidance and care of a divine creator.

These are the stories that Dan has heard from his grandfather Robert, so many times that he already knows them by heart.
