1. The Creator of the Universe

In the Holy Trinity, Brahma has been kept first. He is shown as a four-headed and four-armed God, seated on a lotus. The four hands of Brahma hold a string of beads, a lotus, the four Vedas and a water pot. The string of beads depict the passage of time, the lotus depicts eternity, the water pot depicts the creation of life and the four Vedas- Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, Atharva Veda- provide the basis for the process of creation. Brahma's vaahan is a swan. He travels everywhere on it. He knows the real difference between good and evil. It is believed that along with being the creator of the universe, Brahma is also his own creator. He created himself from the lotus that resided in the navel of Lord Vishnu at the beginning of time. Brahma's consort Saraswati- the goddess of wisdom and knowledge- had provided him with assistance and advice to create the universe.
