Crossroads of pure and devil

Chapter One: Crossroads of Pure and Devil

The city was restless that night. Neon lights flickered against the rain-slick pavement, and the hum of traffic echoed like a heartbeat through the streets. Aliyah pulled her thin jacket tighter around her shoulders, clutching the small envelope of cash she had earned from her shift. It wasn’t much, but every coin brought her closer to her dream of studying, of escaping the shadows of her orphaned past.

She paused at the intersection, waiting for the light to change. The air felt heavier than usual, charged with something she couldn’t name. A chill ran down her spine, though the night was warm.

Then it happened.

The sky tore open.

A rift, jagged and violent, split the clouds above. From it descended a figure cloaked in darkness, his presence so commanding that the world seemed to hold its breath. His boots struck the pavement with a force that sent ripples through the puddles at Aliyah’s feet.

He was tall, broad-shouldered, his eyes glowing faintly with an otherworldly light. His aura was suffocating, cold, and cruel — yet magnetic.

Lord Eldric Kyrion had crossed into her world.

Aliyah stumbled back, her heart pounding. She should have run, but something in his gaze pinned her in place. It was not human, not ordinary. He looked at her as though she were the only anchor in this strange land.

Eldric himself was disoriented. The last thing he remembered was the clash of steel, the roar of his enemies, and the curse that had been hurled at him. Now, he stood in a world stripped of magic, surrounded by fragile structures and glowing machines.

And then he felt it — the bond.

Pain lanced through his chest as Aliyah’s hand scraped against the rough brick wall behind her. He gasped, clutching his side, realizing with horror that her wound was his wound. The curse had bound them.

Aliyah’s eyes widened. “Who… who are you?”

His voice was low, edged with frost. “No one you should know.”

But even as he spoke, Eldric understood the danger. His enemies could use this girl — this fragile, human girl — as a weapon against him. He could not allow her to see the truth of his heart, nor the vulnerability that now tied them together.

Aliyah, trembling yet defiant, lifted her chin. “You don’t belong here.”

Eldric’s lips curved into the faintest shadow of a smile, though his eyes remained cold. “Neither do you, little dove. Not anymore.”

The crossroads had been drawn — pure and devil, human and king. And though neither of them knew it yet, their fates had already begun to entwine.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...

Rodela: I have been reading in Inkitt for quite some years now, but this is the 2nd time I am reading a story as well knitted as this one.
