Chapter 1: The Day I Met You

"I'm so glad the examinations are over. I just guessed all of the answers." Eliza said as she watched me pack my things.

"Yeah, it was hard. Especially the last question. I'm pretty sure I'll get low scores again." I replied, as I grabbed my bag. I was about to say something else, but she quickly interrupted me.

"Oh please. Stop being humble. You always get higher scores, sometimes even perfect." It's true that I always get high scores because I want to be a top student but of course she doesn't know that.

As we walked, I continued the conversation. "You know you could get high scores too if you studied with me. Which I've told you a million times. Stop talking to your boyfriend and start studying."

I know she wouldn't listen to me but might as well mention it to her again. "You know you should try getting into a relationship, Cassie. I mean you're smart, beautiful, and sweet so why not try it? Your life is boring, you know. Just because your parents got divorced doesn't mean you should stop believing in love. Not all men are like that."

I didn't expect her to bring that up. I tried to forget it but I can't and besides love is a waste of time for me. I want to talk back to her so that I can defend myself but I didn't.

We reached the cafeteria, and I sighed. I wanted to go home already, but I had to wait for Eliza's dad to pick her up. She's lucky, she doesn't have to take public transportation.

I then placed my bag on the table and sat down. Eliza did the same but only for a second. "I'll be back." She said, walking towards one of her classmates. I didn't mind. I was busy on my phone anyway. But after a few minutes I then stood up and went to her.

As I approached her I slipped my phone into my pocket, and froze. For a moment, everything seemed to slow down. I saw her talking to her classmate about the test. I think his name is Evan? I've seen him before, but I can't remember where.

I know I don't believe in love but what is this feeling? Is this what they call love at first sight?

No. Stop it, Cassie. You just met him. And remember you don't believe in love. I noticed he doesn't talk that much and he clearly is cold. Like really cold. Eliza noticed me and introduced me to him, but he didn’t even say anything. He just walked away and sat down.

Rude...

"Anyways, my dad's here. Do you want a ride?" I snapped out of my thoughts as Eliza asked. I know her dad. He's rich like really rich and owns a business but not exactly kind. Especially to me.

"Sorry Eliza. I can't, but thanks. I'll see you tomorrow. Okay?" She pouted, then hugged me and said goodbye before heading to her dad's car.

After she left, I decided to go home too. But as soon as I stepped outside. It started raining. Great... how am I going home now? I forgot my umbrella.

As I texted my mom, waiting for her reply, I heard someone approaching me. "Here, borrow mine." I looked back and saw that it was Evan handing me his umbrella. But why? Does he like me or something? Snap out of Cassie he's probably just being nice.

"But how about you? Do you have an extra?" I expect him to have one because he let me borrow his. "No, that's my only one, but don't worry I have my jacket and besides I don't get sick easily. "

He paused. "Just return it to me tomorrow, you know my room since Eliza is your friend." I hesitated for a second before taking the umbrella from him and I couldn't help but blush slightly but quickly brushed it off. As soon as I was going to thank him I noticed that he had already left.

I then used the umbrella and went home. I'm still shocked by what happened earlier. I know I don't believe in love. But Evan...

He feels different. Especially after what happened and it got me thinking, should I ask Eliza for his number?
