Prologue
Life is a mystery. Many wonder if magic exists. But magic is all around us. We are just usually incapable of seeing it because the rulers of the world have determined that the only way to make it so they get what they want is to keep control of the people, and the only way to do that is to prevent the people from being able to improve their lives. This is what led to the Purges, the Witch Trials, The Crusades, even the Holocaust. Every time humans get close to discovering magic once more, the world leaders go into another form of one of these events, blaming anything and everything to justify the destruction of materials, the murder of whole groups of people, and propaganda used to pull all of this off. It always starts the same, humans realize that the freedom of thought means they can be themselves, being themselves brings them closer to nature, and being closer to nature lifts the veil so they can see and utilize magic. Occasionally someone will be born just able to utilize this force and somehow they always disappear. The creatures that once existed that were full of this magic were hunted down and exterminated till their species became extinct. Some theorize that they just went into hiding, reappearing every now and then to test if humans have evolved enough to be trusted with the power the creatures hold.
When humans begin to get close to this power once more, world leaders start propaganda campaigns that slander all those being true to themselves, be they gay, female, trans, smart, talented, or anyone trying to follow their dreams. They tell people that they need to stay on a specific path, that dreams are folly that wont lead to anything, that being anything but one of the People of the Church is an abomination, that being female makes you weak and less capable and emotional, that being gay is unnatural, that being trans makes you a pedophile, that being anything other than light skinned is inferior. This is spread rapidly and then those sheep that follow the world leaders begin to attack and persecute those who stand out while the materials regarding these people are destroyed. People then are rounded up and executed by a police force built and accepted by the people. Those victims are then buried in mass graves and their lives slandered for the agenda while anyone left who would oppose them goes into hiding and pretends to be a sheep just to survive. Then the world leaders fill the history books with lies that justify their actions as much as they can. Few countries have learned from this pattern and tried to stop it, but they take hate for it every day and are threatened by larger countries that still follow the world leaders. Eventually those in hiding come out again and new generations bring with them more people that hold these governmentally undesired traits. Meanwhile at the top the world leaders watch, waiting to start the cycle all over again.
