Chapter 1
Alyss
New York City
Sounds of footsteps echo around the club, sounds of fencing swords clashing to one another, as each fencer practice against one another, skills forming in the process. The air was thick with tension, sweats upon each fencer's face as they cram the club, preparing for the upcoming bout competition against a different fencing Club. Right here in this moment, fencing was their life. It was all that mattered as their heads flew back and they chased the high, that fencing gives.
I, however felt different, nothing but the feeling of my sword beside me was gifting me.
An arm slips unto my shoulder, feeling of a tall presence stands beside me, as I grab my sword and put it right up against my side, as I rest my hands against the railing of the balcony looking over the fencers downstairs. My breaths slows as the crowd below gaze upstairs, as I slowly brought my sword up and decide to descend down the stairs.
Now
I grab my sword, a surge of energy rushes through me as I move towards the others to practice along them, the hand that was rested on my shoulders tried to stop me, but I ignored them, instead listening to my sword, as I prepare to join the practice area, I looked around my fellow fencers, all eyes waiting for me to join them.
A girl caught my attention, a girl with a pretty face, as I saw her get surrounded with bullies, I decided to interfere.
"Hey! Get away from her!" I say with a firm tone and a frown on my face as the bullies turn their attention towards me, the leader of the group says "And why should we huh? " The rest of the group turns to giggles as they stare at me and and their leader. "If, you don't want me to tell coach Wilson all about this little play you're doing with the new kid, you'll back off" The leaders says "Boo, you're boring" And then turns to her group and leaves, leaving me alone with the new girl.
"Are you okay? " I say with concern and hand out reached towards the girl, the girl looks up at me and takes my hand, as I slowly help her off the floor. "My name is Alyss", I say with a smile on my face towards her. " My name is Elora" The new girl says to me. " What a pretty name! " I say with a smile to her. "Thank you!" Elora replies. As we looked towards each other's, I hear footsteps approaching and out of the corner of my eye, I notice coach Wilson approaching. As he came closer he spoke, "Ah, alyss. I see you already met elora" Elora smiles at me and then looks towards coach wilson as he continues speaking. "Alyss, this here is elora, her family recently moved here and I'm a close friend of her father, I've seen how elora plays and she's quite skilled, you're both on the same level of advanced training." As I listened to coach Wilson talk, I turn my head towards elora, I was amaze to finally have someone the same level I was in fencing.
Now, after talking with coach Wilson, I decided to take elora around the club, introducing her to everyone, the fellow fencers, the other coaches and I got to know elora better along the way.
At the lockers, Elora asks "Alyss, how do I get my own locker? " I look towards her and replied with "oh, you can claim any unclaimed locker and lucky for you, there's an unclaimed locker right next to mine" Elora looks towards where Alyss was pointing and smiles, "That is perfect, thanks". Alyss smiles and helps Elora put her stuff in the locker. After the lockers, Alyss and Elora decide to head towards the practice arena and practice their skills.
After the first successful day of fencing, I decided to invite Elora to have a snack at the convenience store across the street.
At the lockers
"Hey Elora, wanna get a snack with me at the convenience store? " Elora looks towards me and said "oh.. I would love to, but I'm saving my allowance. " I look up at her and tell her, "Oh, don't worry it's my treat" Elora looks at Alyss in surprise and says "Oh no, that'll be embarrassing, already spending your money on me" I look over, "I don't mind! Come on!, someone gotta come with me" I say with a smile on my face. Elora finally agrees and joins alyss on her way out of the club. Alyss and Elora move to cross the street and arrives at the convenience store.
I go to pick up an onigiri with a strawberry drink, while I see elora looking around and I notice her eyeing the hot dog but she goes for a smaller snack instead, so I decided to get the hot dog and get her the same strawberry drink as I was. Elora notices Alyss buying the snacks and feels happy that she has a friend kind enough to buy her snacks after class.
Alyss finishes paying and goes to sit down and calls over Elora, so they can enjoy their snacks together. As Elora sits down and enjoys her food with alyss. They talk about their life together we their friendship continues to grow.
