Summary

In a world where everything has fallen— where power, beauty, and rules have lost their meaning— a lone soul walks through the silence of what remains. As they confront the ruins of society and the echoes of who they once were, they begin to question everything they were taught about life, identity, and freedom. When nothing is left to control you… what does it truly mean to be free? In the ashes of everything, only what we became remains.

ECHOES OF NOTHING

The world didn’t end with a scream—it ended in silence. No chaos, no desperate cries… just a slow, suffocating stillness swallowing everything whole. I thought I would feel something when it happened—fear, grief, anything—but there was only emptiness. As if whatever made me human had already burned away long before the world did.

Silence.

I could hear my own heartbeat—slow, heavy… unfamiliar.

A metallic taste lingered in my mouth, sharp, almost comforting in its familiarity.

I never looked at their faces.

It didn’t matter now.

Blood painted everything in shades of red and rust, drying into the earth like it belonged there. Bodies lay scattered—less like people, more like memories the world had decided to forget. The air felt thick… unwilling to move, unwilling to let go.

Darkness hadn’t just fallen.

It had settled in.

At first, I thought I would cry. Scream. Beg for something—anything—to wake me up from this nightmare.

But nothing came out.

My throat burned with unsaid words.

My chest felt hollow… like something inside me had already left before the world did.

No guilt.

No remorse.

Nothing.

I used to wonder what the end of the world would feel like. Fire? Chaos? Fear?

I was wrong.

It feels empty.

Not quiet—empty.

The kind that echoes. The kind that stretches endlessly, swallowing time… swallowing meaning. Even the wind had stopped whispering. Even the sky had forgotten its color.

I took a step forward.

The ground beneath my feet was damp, uneven—soft with what remained. Each step sounded louder than it should, as if the silence itself was listening.

Was I the only one left?

The thought didn’t scare me.

That was the most terrifying part.

Something shifted in the distance. Not loud. Not sudden. Just enough to disturb the stillness.

My heartbeat changed.

For the first time since everything ended…

I felt something.

Not fear.

Not hope.

Something in between.

I walked without direction until something crinkled beneath my foot.

I stopped.

Money.

I stared at it longer than I should have. Once, it carried weight—not just in hand, but in life. It decided worth. Power. Survival. People chased it, fought for it… built their entire existence around it.

And now—

It lay pressed into the dirt, no different from dust.

I didn’t pick it up.

There was no reason to.

What could it buy now?

Food didn’t matter. Comfort didn’t exist. There was no one left to impress, no system left to belong to.

I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

Some things only have value when you want them…

Not when you need them.

And sometimes—

By the time you truly need them,

they’ve already lost everything that made them matter.

Everything happened.

Not one thing.

Not one mistake.

Everything.

We brought this upon ourselves.

The hunger for power that never ended…

The greed that kept growing, even when we had enough…

And in the end—

nature didn’t fight us.

It showed us.

Storms swallowed cities. Fires refused to die. Oceans rose like they had been waiting.

And still… we didn’t stop.

Then came the diseases.

New. Unknown.

They spread faster than fear… quieter than death. By the time we understood them—

it was already over.

Systems collapsed. Borders disappeared. Not because we chose unity—

but because there was nothing left to protect.

We thought we were in control.

We weren’t.

We were just delaying the inevitable.

There was a time when my world was small.

Just a few people. A few moments.

“Hey, you know everyone says you look like a celebrity.”

I had heard that before. My friends used to tease me about it.

I would laugh, brush it off like it didn’t matter.

I remember one evening…

We were sitting together, the light fading slowly, the sky painted in colors I can’t even describe anymore.

“Just admit it once!”

They laughed.

I rolled my eyes, pretending to be annoyed—

but I was smiling.

It was nothing important.

And yet…

It felt like everything.

Now, I stand in front of a broken mirror.

My reflection stares back at me—

pale skin,

sunken eyes that once held too much life,

charred lips,

hollow cheeks where softness used to exist.

I look… and I don’t recognize who I’ve become.

Funny, isn’t it?

How something people once admired…

disappears so easily.

Beauty doesn’t last.

Not in a world like this.

What we needed—

what we always needed—

was something deeper.

Something that didn’t fade when everything else did.

But we realized it too late.

In the mirror, I saw her.

A lifeless woman—covered, concealed… almost erased.

Like in places where women are taught to disappear beneath fabric.

I turned slowly… and walked toward her.

Step by step.

Like approaching a question I had never answered.

No movement. No resistance. No voice.

Just stillness.

And a few meters away—

Another body.

A woman.

Shirt. Jeans.

Two lives.

Two choices.

Two different worlds… once.

And yet—

the same ending.

Funny, isn’t it?

How this used to be a debate.

What a woman should wear.

What she shouldn’t.

As if fabric could decide safety.

As if blame could be stitched into clothing.

So tell me—

When everything ended…

did it stop to ask what they were wearing?

Or did it take them both—

the same way?

The ground shifted beneath me.

Not violently… just enough.

I lost my balance—

my head struck a rock.

Pain. Then stillness.

Dizziness.

My body felt weak… unfamiliar.

I don’t remember when I last ate.

Not by choice—

there was simply nothing left.

The trees were dying.

Animals… gone.

Hunger.

Such a small word…

for something that consumes you completely.

Just one bite.

That’s all it takes to stay alive.

And yet—

we never fought for that.

We fought for more.

More power.

More control.

More than we ever needed.

Greed destroyed us

long before hunger ever could.

And now—

everything has ended.

Money… meaningless.

Beauty… gone.

Rules… forgotten.

Power… useless.

Nothing is permanent.

Nothing ever was.

Just a life that comes…

and quietly goes.

And maybe—

what we do in between…

was the only thing that ever mattered.

I leaned back, letting the rough surface hold my weight.

My eyes slowly closed.

Not out of fear.

Not out of resistance.

Just… acceptance.

Whatever comes next—

I’m ready.

Or maybe…

this is what comes next.
