Chapter 1
It began before sunrise. The city of Jerusalem was already awake, whispers spreading from street to street. Jesus had been arrested during the night. He had been questioned, accused, and finally sentenced to die on a cross — a punishment meant for criminals.
The soldiers placed a crown made of thorns on His head and a robe on His shoulders, mocking Him as “King.” Some laughed, others watched quietly. Jesus stood there, calm and silent. He knew this moment had been coming.
Soon, they led Him outside the city. A large wooden cross was placed on His shoulders. It was heavy, and the walk was long. The road to the hill was crowded with people — some angry, some crying, some confused.
Mary, His mother, followed behind. Each step He took felt like a pain in her heart. She remembered holding Him as a baby. Now she watched Him suffer, and she could do nothing.
Jesus stumbled along the way. The soldiers pulled a man from the crowd to help carry the cross. Together, they continued until they reached the hill called Golgotha, meaning “Place of the Skull.”
At the top of the hill, the soldiers prepared the crosses. Jesus was placed on the wood. The crowd grew quiet. Some turned away. Others stared.
They lifted the cross and set it upright. Two criminals were also crucified beside Him — one on His right and one on His left. Above Jesus, a sign read: “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
People passed by and shook their heads.
"He saved others… but He can't save Himself," some said.
Religious leaders mocked Him.
"If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!"
But Jesus did not respond with anger. Instead, He spoke words no one expected:
"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."
Even in pain, He was thinking about others.
One of the criminals beside Him joined in the mocking. But the other stopped him.
"Don't you fear God?" he said. "We deserve this… but this man has done nothing wrong."
Then he turned to Jesus.
"Jesus… remember me when You come into Your kingdom."
Jesus looked at him with love.
"Truly, today you will be with me in paradise."
Below the cross stood Mary and a few followers. Jesus saw His mother crying. He looked at one of His disciples standing beside her.
"Woman, here is your son."
Then to the disciple: "Here is your mother."
Even in His final moments, He cared for her.
Around noon, the sky grew dark. The sun seemed hidden. The atmosphere changed. People grew uneasy. Hours passed slowly.
Then Jesus spoke again:
"I thirst."
After some time, He cried out:
"It is finished."
These were not words of defeat — but of completion. The mission of love was complete.
Finally, He said:
"Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit."
And then, He breathed His last.
At that moment, the earth shook. The crowd became afraid. Even one of the soldiers watching said,
"Surely, this was the Son of God."
Later, a kind man asked for Jesus' body. He carefully took Him down from the cross. Jesus was wrapped in linen cloth and placed in a tomb carved from rock. A large stone was rolled in front of it.
The disciples were heartbroken. The hope they had felt seemed gone.
But heaven was not finished.
Because three days later… everything would change.
The cross looked like the end.
But it was really the beginning of salvation. ✝️❤️
