The Wish That Went Too Far
Neil Arora had always believed in two things: cricket and complaining about his girlfriend.
“Rahi, you seriously take forever to get ready,” he groaned, leaning against the wall outside her room, scrolling endlessly on his phone. “We’re just going for chai, not a wedding.”
From inside, Rahi’s voice fired back instantly, “Neil, if you had even 1% sense of style, you’d understand! You literally own five identical t-shirts!”
Neil smirked. “Because they work. Efficient. Unlike your 3-hour ‘quick getting ready’.”
The door swung open.
Rahi stood there, arms crossed, eyes narrowed. She looked stunning—simple white kurti, light makeup—but her expression could freeze lava.
“You know what your problem is?” she said.
Neil raised an eyebrow. “I have many. Be specific.”
“You don’t get it. You don’t get me. You think everything is easy. Being a girl is not the same, Neil!”
“Oh please,” he laughed. “How hard can it be? You just dress up, post Insta stories, and—”
“STOP.” Rahi’s voice cracked with anger. “You think my life is that simple? Try being me for ONE day!”
Neil shrugged casually. “Fine. I would probably do it better.”
That was the exact moment something strange happened.
The lights flickered.
A sudden gust of wind rushed through the room—even though the windows were closed.
Both of them froze.
“Did you feel that?” Rahi whispered.
“Yeah… okay that’s creepy,” Neil said, looking around. “Your house isn’t haunted, right?”
Before she could reply, a strange glow appeared near Rahi’s dressing mirror.
It shimmered like liquid light.
And then—
A voice.
Not loud. Not soft. Just… everywhere.
“You wish to understand each other… then live each other’s life.”
“WHAT?!” Neil shouted.
“Who said that?!” Rahi panicked.
The glow intensified.
Before either of them could move—
FLASH.
Everything went white.
Neil groaned.
His head felt heavy.
“Ugh… what just happened…” he muttered, slowly opening his eyes.
He blinked.
The ceiling looked… different.
Pink.
Very pink.
“Why is my ceiling pink?” he frowned.
Then he sat up.
And froze.
His hair fell over his face.
Long.
Soft.
Definitely NOT his.
“Wait…” he whispered.
His heart started racing.
He slowly looked down.
White kurti.
Slim hands.
Nail polish.
“NO. NO. NO WAY.”
He jumped off the bed and ran to the mirror.
And screamed.
“RAHIIIIII?!?!”
Because staring back at him…
was Rahi.
Same face.
Same hair.
Same everything.
Except the expression was pure panic.
“This is NOT funny!” he yelled, touching his face. “This is NOT funny at all!”
Just then—
“NEIL?!?!”
Neil turned around.
Standing at the door…
was himself.
But not really.
Because inside his body…
was Rahi.
She looked equally shocked.
They both stared at each other in silence for 5 seconds.
Then together—
“WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!”
Rahi (in Neil’s body) walked closer, inspecting him. “Why am I… you?!”
Neil pointed at himself. “Why am I you?!”
They both paused.
And then—
“The voice…” Rahi whispered.
Neil’s eyes widened. “The wish.”
They slowly processed it.
“You said—try being me for one day,” Rahi said.
“And I said I’d do it better,” Neil added.
Silence.
Then both at once—
“Oh no.”
Panic mode officially began.
“This can’t be real,” Neil said, pacing around. “This is some dream. I’m going to wake up.”
He slapped himself.
Nothing.
Rahi blinked. “Did… did that hurt?”
“Yes! Because I just slapped YOUR face!”
“HEY! Be careful!” she snapped.
“Your face, my pain!” Neil shot back.
“Ugh, typical!”
“Typical?! I’m literally stuck in your body!”
“And I’m stuck in yours! Do you know how heavy you feel?!”
“HEY!”
They both stopped arguing for a second.
Reality hit.
Hard.
“What are we going to do?” Rahi asked, her voice softer now.
Neil ran his fingers through long hair (still not used to it). “Okay… okay… we stay calm.”
“I am calm!” she snapped.
“You’re NOT calm!”
“Neither are you!”
“Okay fair.”
They both sat down.
Thinking.
“This might reverse,” Neil said. “Maybe it’s temporary.”
“Or maybe we’re stuck like this forever,” Rahi replied.
“NOT HELPFUL.”
“Just saying!”
Neil took a deep breath. “Okay listen. Until this fixes… we pretend.”
“Pretend?”
“Yes. I act like you. You act like me.”
Rahi stared at him. “You acting like me? That’s already a disaster.”
“Oh really? You think being me is easy?”
“Of course not! You’re annoying 24/7!”
“EXCUSE ME?”
They both stopped again.
Then…
unexpectedly…
they laughed.
A little.
Just a little.
“This is insane,” Rahi said, shaking her head.
“Yeah… but also kinda… interesting?” Neil admitted.
She raised an eyebrow. “You’re enjoying this?”
“No! Just… curious.”
“Hmm.”
A pause.
Then Rahi smirked slightly.
“Alright, Mr. ‘I can do it better’… let’s see how you survive being me.”
Neil grinned back.
“Challenge accepted.”
They shook hands.
A strange agreement.
But neither of them realized—
this wasn’t going to be just “one day.”
And surviving each other’s lives…
would be much harder than they ever imagined
