But can she survive this? Lara is finally putting herself back together after an abusive relationship when she meets Nathaniel — quiet, intense and carrying scars that mirror her own. For one perfect weekend, everything feels safe. Easy. Right. And Lara begins to let go and open up to him. But the morning after their first night together, he disappears. No explanation. No goodbye. Lara moves on, determined not to fall for someone who won’t stay. But Nathaniel isn’t done with her — not even close. And when he finds his way back into her life, the pull between them is impossible to ignore. Some connections don’t heal you.
They ruin you. And this time… walking away might be impossible. A/N- the FMC is a DV survivor and it does inform parts of her story. There are references to her past but they are not in depth.

Prologue

I was twenty-three when I met Nathaniel. On paper, we didn’t make sense.

He was a high-flying accountant with money to burn and an ego that could barely fit through a doorway.

I was a shy, traumatised young woman who grew up in a country village where residents barely had two pennies to rub together. If I wanted something I had to work for it and work bloody hard.

How we met is inconsequential.

But our love affair changed my very DNA. He ruined me for all others in so many ways. Our passion was electric, our fights explosive, and our love doomed from the start. A champagne and sex fuelled disaster.

This love story has a happy ending, but likely not the one you’re expecting.
