Ein Jahr lang stand das Leben der jungen Witwe Coco still. Ihr geliebter Mann Oliver ist bei einem tragischen Unfall ums Leben gekommen. Nun, nach einem Jahr voller Trauer, Traurigkeit und Hoffnungslosigkeit, fasst sie neuen Mut und will ihr Leben wieder in den Griff kriegen. Bei einem Spaziergang am Tagebau lernt sie Colin kennen, einen lebensfrohen, ein wenig verrückten Überlebenskünstler aus den USA. Sie verstehen sich sofort blendend und beschließen, Colins letzte Tage in Deutschland gemeinsam zu verbringen. Schnell merken sie, dass zwischen ihnen eine ganz besondere Freundschaft wächst, die Coco neuen Lebensmut gibt. Wäre da nur nicht das kleine Problem, dass sie bald mehrere tausend Kilometer trennen werden, wenn Colin zurück in die USA muss.
