THE LAST DAFFODILS
SCENE 1: THE YOCHI ESTATE - DAY
The sun shines on a lush garden. Akira is sitting on a swing, reading an old, leather-bound book.
Akira (Voiceover): "And she died in the garden of Daffodils, and on the shoulder of the one who loved her the most."
She closes the book with a sigh. A car pulls up. Dr. Kai steps out, looking professional and distant. He is there to see Akira's father.
Kai: (Nodding to Akira) "Hello, Akira. Is your father in? My father asked me to drop off these medical files."
Akira: (Smiling) "He’s in the study, Dr. Kai. You’re much more serious than your father was."
Kai: "Medicine is a serious business, Akira."
As he walks inside, Akira’s phone pings. It’s a message from Fin: "Meet me tomorrow at the Amusement Park? I have something to ask you." Akira squeals with joy.
SCENE 2: AMUSEMENT PARK ENTRANCE - NEXT DAY
Akira stands by the gates, looking beautiful. Suddenly, a car sputters and stops nearby. Smoke comes from the hood. It’s Kai.
Akira: "Dr. Kai? Don’t tell me the great doctor can't fix a car!"
Kai: (Frustrated) "The engine overheated. The mechanic said it will take at least an hour."
Akira: (Grabbing his hand) "Then don't waste that hour standing in the heat. Come on!"She drags him into the park. We see a montage of them laughing: riding the carousel, Kai awkwardly holding a giant teddy bear, and both sharing ice cream. For the first time, Kai’s cold exterior melts into a genuine smile.
Kai: "I haven't had this much fun since I was a child."
Akira: "Life is short, Kai. You should spend it smiling."
As they exit, Kai’s car is fixed.
Kai: "Can I give you a lift?"
Akira: "No thanks! My boyfriend, Fin, is coming to pick me up. See you later, Doctor!"
Kai’s smile fades slightly. He watches her walk away.
FLASHBACK: KAI’S OFFICE - THREE YEARS AGO
The office is sterile, modern, and cold. No photos on the desk. Just medical journals and a silver clock ticking loudly.
A YOUNG COUPLE sits across from Kai. The woman is crying. The man holds her hand, trembling.
KAI (25) stares at a tablet. His face is like stone.
KAI
The tumor is aggressive. I will perform the resection on Tuesday at 08:00.
YOUNG MAN
(Choking back tears)
Doctor... is she going to be okay? We just got engaged.
Kai doesn't look up from the screen. He doesn't see their pain; he only sees the data.
KAI
I don't deal in "okay." I deal in percentages. Currently, your success rate is 92%. I have never lost a patient, and I don't intend to start now.
The woman reaches out to touch Kai’s hand in gratitude. Kai subtly pulls his hand away, reaching for a pen instead.
KAI (CONT'D)
Please see my assistant for the consent forms. I have another consultation in five minutes.
The couple leaves. Kai sits in the silence. He looks at the silver clock. He has everything—fame, skill, and a perfect record—but he looks utterly alone.
SCENE 3: COLLEGE – TWO DAYS LATER
Akira and Fin are sitting with their friends. Their friends are teasing them about their relationship. From afar, Lily watches them, her eyes filled with jealousy.
SCENE 4: AFTER COLLEGE
Lily stops Akira.
Lily: So, Akira... you win, huh?
Akira: It’s not about winning, Lily. How can you treat love like a battlefield?
Lily: You know I’ve loved him since we were children, and you... his mother even thought I was perfect for him.
(Fin appears)
Fin: What are you two doing here?
(Akira starts to walk away)
Lily (screaming): I wish you’d never get what you want! I hope you disappear!
SCENE 5: THE HOSPITAL - TWO WEEKS LATER
The atmosphere is heavy. Akira is sitting on an exam table. Kai is looking at her scans, his face pale.
Kai: "It’s cancer, Akira. Advanced stage. You need to be admitted immediately."
Akira: (Voice trembling) "But you're the best, right? You've never lost a patient?"
Kai: (Stepping closer, voice soft) "I won't let you be the first. I promise."
SCENE 6: ADMIT DAY
Akira got admit at hospital.
Kai and akira's father talking at kai cabin.
Kai : it's serious we have do therepy as soon as possible you have to sign in the document.
Mr yochi( akira's father) : do whatever you want but please make sure that akira will be fine.
Kai (voiceover) : i have bad feeling about this case. Let's see..
SCENE 7: HOSPITAL ROOM - NIGHT
Akira is pale but smiling. Kai is sitting by her bed, checking her vitals.
Akira: "Kai? If I get better... will you take me to a field of Daffodils? They are my favorite. They mean new beginnings."
Kai: (Looking at her with deep affection) "I will take you anywhere you want to go."
SCENE 8: FIN’S VISIT
Fin comes to see Akira.
Fin: Akira, why didn't you tell me?
Akira: I didn't want to make you sad. Besides, Dr. Kai is a very good doctor; I heard he never loses a patient.
Fin: I’m here with you now. Let’s get married.
Akira: Wait... What? Marriage?
Fin: Don’t you want to marry me?
Akira: I do want that, but...
Fin: Please.
Tears well up in Akira's eyes. Then, they kiss.
From outside, Kai watches them. He seems a bit uncomfortable.
SCENE 9: LILY AND FIN’S MOTHER
Lily arrives at Fin’s house, but Fin is not there.
Megan (Fin’s Mother): Hi, Lily. How are you?
Lily: I’m good. Congratulations.
Megan: Congratulations? For what?
Lily: Your son is getting married to a cancer patient. Who knows when she will die? Your son will be in pain for the rest of his life. Well... he certainly has a very big heart.
SCENE 10: HOSPITAL CORRIDOR – DAY
Fin’s mother approaches Akira’s room. Kai is standing nearby, hidden around a corner.
Megan: Akira, be sensible. Fin wants to marry you out of pity, but his future is with Lily. Lily loves him, and she’s healthy. She even told me once she wished you were out of the way so Fin could be hers.
Akira (Tears streaming): I... I don’t want to be a burden.
(Kai steps into view)
Kai: Can you please leave, lady? You are misbehaving with her.
Megan: So, you have another man to protect you now, huh?
Kai takes her by the arm and escorts her out.
SCENE 11: THE FINAL WISH
Akira calls Fin and asks him to meet her. Fin arrives at her hospital room.
Fin: What happened? Why did you call me so suddenly?
Akira: (Looking away) Fin... I’ve been thinking. We can’t get married.
Fin: What? Akira, where is this coming from? Is it because of what my mother said?
Akira: No. It’s because you deserve a full life, not one spent in a hospital waiting room. I want you to be happy, even if I’m not the one by your side.
Fin: (Grasping her hand) I am happy because I’m with you. Don’t do this.
Akira: (Voice trembling) Please, Fin. If you love me, let me go. Do this one last thing for me.
SCENE 12: AFTER FIN LEAVES THE HOSPITAL
A nurse comes in to feed Akira.
Nurse: I thought someone else was your lover.
Akira: What?
Nurse: The day I dropped food on you and didn't treat you well, Dr. Kai scolded me very badly. He has never done that before. And that lady who made you cry? He scolded her, too. He is a very noble man, but I have never seen him this protective.
SCENE 13: THE WEDDING DAY
It is the day of the operation. But first, Akira insists on seeing the wedding. Kai drives her to the chapel. From the car, she watches Fin and Lily exchange vows.
Akira: (Sobbing) "He looks so handsome. He deserves a life I can't give him."
Kai: (Grip tightening on the steering wheel) "You are braver than anyone I know, Akira."
SCENE 14: THE GARDEN - FINALE
The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, but Akira’s heart is failing. She wakes up and whispers, "Take me outside."
Kai carries her to the hospital garden. It is filled with thousands of yellow Daffodils he had planted for her. They sit on a bench. Akira leans her head on Kai's shoulder.
Akira: "It's just like my book, Kai. The garden... the shoulder... Tell me what’s in your heart. Please."
Kai: (Tears falling freely) "I love you. I’ve never cared for anyone like this. Please, Akira... don't leave me. Stay."
Akira smiles, takes one last breath, and her hand goes limp. She is gone. Kai’s silent sobs fill the garden.
SCENE 15: THE GRAVEYARD - 40 YEARS LATER
An old man with white hair and a cane walks slowly toward a grave. It is Old Kai. He places a fresh bunch of Daffodils on the headstone.
Old Kai: "I'm still here, Akira. And I still love you, just as much as that first day in the park."
He sits on a nearby bench, looking at the horizon, waiting to join her.
FADE OUT.
