Chapter 1: My Favorite Place in the House

Hello everyone!

My name is Aaradhy and I am 9 years old. Today I am going to tell you something very important about me. If you ever come to my house and want to find me, don’t look in my bedroom, don’t look near the TV, and don’t even look in the playground first.

You should go straight to the kitchen.

Yes, the kitchen is my favorite place in the whole house. Some people like video games. Some like cartoons. Some like playing cricket all day. I like all those things too… but I LOVE the kitchen the most.

The kitchen is like a magical place. Every time I go there, something interesting is happening. Sometimes onions are getting chopped, and they make my eyes water. Sometimes spices are being roasted, and the whole house smells amazing. Sometimes something is frying and making that “chh-chh-chh” sound. It feels like the kitchen is alive.

My Mom is the boss of the kitchen. She knows everything—how much salt to add, when to stir, when to wait, and when something is perfectly cooked. I think she is like a scientist… but instead of a lab, she works in the kitchen.

Every day after school, I throw my bag on the sofa and run to the kitchen.

“Mom! What are we cooking today?”

She always smiles and says, “First wash your hands!”

I wash my hands super fast and come back. Then I stand next to her and watch everything she does.

At first, I used to just watch. But slowly, I started asking questions.

“Why are you adding water now?” “Why are you cooking it on low flame?” “Why does it change color?”

My mom never gets irritated. She explains everything patiently.

One day she told me, “Cooking is science.”

That made me very excited. Because I love science too!

So now, I don’t just watch cooking… I study it.
