Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The Naive Face of a Nightmare
I was walking down the street, glued to my phone and listening to music through my headphones. It was late evening, and I was returning home. I didn't even glance at the traffic light. Blood, screaming, a blow, panic...
Suddenly, I woke up in my room. I looked at myself—I was unharmed. I pinched my arm: yes, it was me, Andrey. Just a nightmare. Remembering that I had a date coming up, I jumped out of bed and started getting ready. I showered, put on a business suit, grabbed a bouquet of roses, my keys, and my phone.
Already in the hallway, as I was leaving the apartment, I suddenly felt ill. My vision blurred, my head hurt, and I heard a strange whisper in my ears. I shook my head—it was all gone. "I must have been sleep-deprived because of the nightmare, so I'm hallucinating," I thought. I finally made it to the meeting place. Vika was already waiting for me—it seemed I was late. I apologized, handed her a bouquet, and we went for a walk in the park, chatting about everything under the sun. A couple of hours later, we had the bright idea to have lunch at a restaurant.
As we approached the establishment, I froze: before my very eyes, a car hit a guy—exactly like in my dream. I screamed, "Murdered!" but the next thing I knew, the road was empty. Vika felt embarrassed for me. She took me into the dining room and hurried to the pharmacy for a sedative.
I ordered food for us: a grilled steak for her and a carbonara for myself. While I waited, I slipped into a deep sleep. And again: everything around me was white, and someone's hand was touching my shoulder. It was the Grim Reaper.
I jumped up and screamed so loudly that a pigeon outside the window dropped a crumb from its beak. Vika, who had already returned from the pharmacy, began to calm me down and gave me some medicine. After lunch, she walked me home.
I brushed my teeth and went to bed early. Enough adventures for today, otherwise you never know what else might happen... Especially since today is Sunday, and I have to go to work tomorrow.
