MINE

On one bright and sunny day everyone clung to their partners, tightening their embrace with each person they passed. The slightest look from a stranger on sidewalks to the passing cars made the couples scowl at one another.

“The nerve of these people. Who makes them think they have a right to look at you?” The partner whispers to his wife Patrice who nods in agreement.

“I feel the same way, they don’t deserve to glance a millisecond in your direction. That’s my right alone. Anyone who is a lover should understand the passions and complexities of a relationship.” Patrice whispers to her husband David’s ear.

A passing couple stops in front of them on the sidewalk as a male clutches his lover tightly. “They’re talking about us babe, I can’t allow that now can I?” Johnny says to his partner Zack who immediately steps in front of them.

“Baby no! Look at me,” Zack says as he crashes to Jerry’s—er, Johnny’s side. “I need you to not kill them. They’re well meaning people even if they talk about us, they’re not doing anything wrong honey— sweetums—baby.” Zack says, widening his eyes before placing himself on his partner’s chest.

Johnny chuckles before pulling his mate closer to him, nearly catching Zack by surprise. Johnny’s pull was weak, nonetheless Zack moved himself closer. “They’ll live—“ Johnny’s eyes shift to Patrice and David. “For now. Hopefully they’ll learn from this encounter.” Johnny says before he kisses Blake who pretends to be surprised and melts into the kiss.

Daniel and Patrice walks away from the couple not caring about the whack job’s threat. “That guy was crazy.” Daniel says as he eyes another passing couple, a woman and her mirror.

The woman shyly hides behind the mirror that suddenly wobbles a few inches towards them. The woman peers from behind the mirror and slaps on paper eyebrows that were at a tilt to express ‘anger.’ This interests Patrice for a second before she notice the two hands on either side of the inanimate object. Walking past the crazed woman confirmed that it was her moving the mirror.

“I’ve had enough waking today honey, let’s go home.” Daniel says and once again Patrice agrees entirely. Tightening their embrace, the two growls under their breath at the judging gaze of jealous strangers.

Gazing at thier prize, their peak of achievement, they’re mine.

Not for them, they all think subconsciously.

“Mine.”
