Later Than Usual

You took a while,

You took ages,

You took years,

You took months,

You took days.

The timer went off,

The alarm shut down,

The phone battery died,

The microwave keeps beeping.

Someone was knocking.

Shadows stretched across the wall.

The house grew quiet.

Is it morning, or is it night?

The knocking is no more.

I haven’t left my chair.

This is late, even for you.
