Chapter 1
On a silent Monday morning when the sun was barely awake, the weeds in the lazy farmer’s field blossomed and beads of water were all over the leaves; sparkling due to the light. The sky seemed to be touched with gold and the cold morning air was guilty of the dew.
Somewhere in the farm a well matured maize plant was invaded by army worms, they drilled holes as if the plant was sown for being drilled. But one army worm was led astray by something beautiful, it thought it was the most beautiful thing it had ever seen; a caterpillar. Suddenly the silence was lost and the birds chirped while the frogs croaked. The army worm’s heart throbbed. Slowly and clouded by love, it strolled to the caterpillar; blinded by its own eyes it strolled. The caterpillar was on another maize plant which was soon climbed by the stolen hearted army worm. As luck would have it, they got along.
Hours grew to days, days to weeks and the army worm and the caterpillar also grew fond of each other. They fed each other, stayed together and fought against all odds.
But a time came when the caterpillar was cocooned, passing through the stage of metamorphosis. The army worm tirelessly, steady and quietly waited. The army worm protected the cocoon from all possible danger.
Suddenly at one dusk when the sun yawned and was about to sleep the cocoon cracked. A new creature emerged out and stretched out its wings and flew. The butterfly which was once a caterpillar flew and never looked back at the army worm. The army worm gazed at the butterfly as it disappeared into the horizon. Then the silence woke and the birds stopped chirping while the frogs stopped croaking. The army worm turned back and strolled to find its comrades, crestfallen.
