Prologue
People always want what they can't have. Power, riches, everlasting life. All of those come at a cost some just aren't willing to give. I, on the other hand gave everything I had for what I truly desired... in the end it left me wondering if it was truly worth it. An internal darkness, a never-ending loneliness.
It was like sitting in a dark room. A dark room with no windows, no doors, not even a candle to keep my body warm.
The darkness just kept growing, eating away at my sanity. One would be foolish to think they wouldn't lose their mind, but they have never experienced this hunger. The desire to feast when they know they shouldn't, to hear the screams and cries that would go unheard in the halls of this empty castle.
As I laid on the cobblestone floor that was cold and chilling as my very skin, I wanted to weep. A emotion I thought I had lost many centuries ago. Yet here I lay, crying on the inside as the tears tried to escape but couldn't.
I had officially given up. That is until I saw her.
