Chapter 1

Driving trough the entrance gate into my estate, I was greeted by Nicholas' convoy or his team or whatever the hell he called them. I got out of my ford and went straight to security who seemed really nervous to see me.

Without killing the engine or closing the car door, I stormed out to them.

Furious was an understatement for what I was feeling but I had to keep my cool, this wasn't their fault.

"What is Nicholas doing here and how exactly did he get in? I have specific orders that I gave to not let him in. What do I pay y'all for?" I said to them in an oddly calm voice. Somehow I sounded more mad than chill and it kinda felt as tho these guys would piss themselves any second.

"Mrs Von Carlowitz, your hus- holding my palm up, she stopped herself before she could finish whatever it was she was going to say.

" Miss Amiah Dupont, thank you very much Gladys. However I don't wanna hear it and I'm going inside. You and Mark better have a sensible explanation when I'm not in this mood." I walked a little further to my house that didn't feel like home anymore. 𝐼𝑡 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑤𝑎𝑦.

I turned to say something more, sounding irritated however.

"If Nicholas decides to pay me a visit, please let me know no matter what. Otherwise, otherwise Gladys and I kid you not....this is the second time this is happening. I won't be so kind next ti-no. There will not be a next time, am I clear?"

"Crystal, miss."

I smiled as I hurried on inside where the real show was just about to begin. Upon entering, the house staff are already in two rows. Uniforms ironed to a crisp, hair in perfect secured buns. I honestly don't like this whole arrival welcoming party and I have tried to change it but to no avail, I have failed miserably.

Even though I own this place, I'm not the one running it. Estate. I mean estate.

"Uhm...Miss, your uhm..Mr. Von Carlowitz is waiting for you in the study. He uhm...he's been waiting for a while now." Marian, my housekeeper slightly calms down from her jitters.

Marian is never like this. A woman always composed, calm and collected to be reduced to this by the mere arrival of Nicholas. He must have done something, like he always does.

"Yes Marian, thank you. You can go back to your duties, all of you." I dismiss them as I head upstairs to where Nicholas has been waiting. Apparently.

Walking down the hall of the second floor, bright light from the afternoon sun elavates it beautifully. I can't help but have a small smile as I continue walking, suddenly stopping in front of the huge wedding photo that takes up almost one part of the wall. My smile dropping a little.

He wasn't even here when he said that, it was over the phone. Good grief, we could have gotten married through the phone if it were upto him.

I look at the the girl staring right ahead. I will admit though, I loved my wedding dress, it wasn't anything extravagant like Nicholas' mother, grandmother and grandmother would have loved it to be but it was simple. It was me. At least that's what I was years ago.

Light silk, bright white with sleeves so long they covered my fingers. They were bell sleeves, slightly. A backless dress, it wasn't tight but it wasn't loose either. It was just the right amount of comfortable that I liked. And it was certainly long.

My hair was a clean messy updo with a pretty tiara encrusted with baby pink diamonds. I liked them, loved them even but my mother detested them. Next to me stood Nicholas, as handsome as ever even when he didn't want to be.

He didn't even look one bit interested throughout the entire wedding. I take a step back and begin to walk, not once looking back neither do I stop. I don't stop walking not until I'm face to face to the beautiful mahogany heavy door that leads to him. I'm tempted to knock, to prepare him for my coming b.

But I don't, I place my manicured fingers around the door knob, turning it and pushing my way inside. I never thought I'd see the light of day when I saw Nicholas in the actual flesh. But he was right there, right infront of me.
