A Fiery Friendship
Before this lovely story starts, Please keep in mind this is the lore of the main character, Fae's childhood.
"Welcome to Atalas Pillar Academy! A place where all creatures are welcome!" The advertisement played in the background, the sound quiet but loud to Fae. An Elf with blonde shoulder length hair and blue eyes. Her pointed ears listened to the radio, thoughts of attending crowding in. Fae's mother, Azar spoke up, interrupting her daughters thoughts. "Fae don't focus on school so much, you're still only 12." Azar's words trailed off for a moment. She cleared her throat to clear her thoughts once more. "How about you go play with Snarl and Bloodsoul?" Snarl and Bloodsoul were siblings, Cerberuses, Snarl a larger one compared to his brother. "Okay mother." Fae responded to her mother as she turned off the radio.
Outside was Bloodsoul and Snarl wrestling. Bloodsoul slipped out from under Snarl like butter on toast. "Hii faeee." Bloodsoul longed his words trotting over to Fae. His middle head sniffed and licked Fae affectionately, while his left and right one nuzzled against her shoulders. "FAE!!" Snarl barked a little too excitedly. He pushed Bloodsoul away with a hard shove. Snarl's left head nudged Fae's shoulder, encouraging her to play.
Fae giggled at his attempt to coax her to play with him. She rested her hand on his middle head petting the top of his ears. Snarl purred in response to the petting. Bloodsoul glared daggers at Snarl, all three pairs of fiery amber eyes locking onto Snarl. With a might pounce, Bloodsoul tackled Snarl into the grass, keeping Fae all for himself. "HEY-! Get off me!!" Snarl whined more of a plea then an order. Bloodsoul kept his brother pinned to the grass, his tail wagging like a proud puppy. Snarl snorted at this, in complete disbelief his own brother would do this.
"Mom, I know I'm twelve, but Atalas Pillar takes students early if they pass the trials," Fae argued, kicking at the loose dirt near the porch steps. The scent of crushed thyme rose where her shoe scuffed the ground, Azar had planted it last spring to keep the gnats away from the Cerberus brothers.
Azar sighed, stirring the honey pot on the stove with a wooden spoon that had seen better decades. "Trials mean combat, sweetheart. Or did you forget how Snarl sat on you last week?" The memory made Fae's ears twitch she'd been pinned under all three of his heads while Bloodsoul howled laughter from the sidelines.
Outside, the wrestling match had devolved into a game of keep-away with Fae's discarded hair ribbon. Bloodsoul darted between Snarl’s legs, the silk clutched in his rightmost jaws. "Cheater!" Snarl roared, but his tails wagged as he gave chase, kicking up clouds of dust that clung to his obsidian fur.
Fae watched them through the window, chewing her lip. "They’d let me bring them. Cerberus guardians are traditional for elves at Atalas." Azar’s spoon stilled. The silence stretched long enough that Bloodsoul dropped the ribbon to peer inside, all six ears pricked forward. Azar softly chuckled. "You’ve been reading the admissions scrolls again." She flicked honey at Fae’s nose, grinning when her daughter squeaked. "Fine. But if and that’s a big if you can get those two to follow orders for more than five minutes, we’ll talk."
Fae came running outside, grabbing both of the pups by their ears making them whine out in pain. "Fae!! Let go!!!" Snarl pleaded, all three heads in unison lowering. "Only if you actually listen for once." Fae scoffed only to loosen her grip on the Cerberuses ears.
Bloodsoul let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "We will! We will!" He begged, backing away slowly sacrificing his brother to Fae.
These idiots. Fae thought to herself, taking the ribbion away from them. Snarl whined at the loss of is profounded chewtoy. Teeth marks, drool, and a whole lot of fur scattered across the ribbion. Fae wheezed at the sight. How much grosser can they get? Fae let her thoughts creep in, an annoyed expression on her face something the brothers saw often. "Uhm Fae..?" Bloodsoul reminded, as if she was to caught up in her own world. "Wha- huh?" Fae looked back at Bloodsoul a curious expression on his face. "You're doing the thing again." Snarl rolled all three pairs of eyes.
"Well sorry Mr Observant." Fae spat out, her own eyes rolling.
"Guys calm down." Bloudsoul broke the bickering huffing in annoyance at the two. "What did you want to ask us Fae?" Fae shook her head, clearing her earlier thoughts of throwing Snarl into the lavapit in hell. "Can you two please be on your best behavior? I'm trying to convince my mom to let me go to Atalas Pillar." Fae begged, her eyes full of hope.
In unison, all 6 heads turned to face each other, their jaws dropped to the floor. Well, atleast it felt like it. Bloodsoul broke the silence, shaking Fae madly. "ATALAS PILLAR? THEE ATALAS PILLAR?"
"ARE YOU CRAZY FAE??" Snarl added, his middle head's ears pinning flat against his skull.
"That place is so pricey!!" Bloodsoul commented, Snarl adding on, "and picky!"
"So what?" Fae asked, grabbing the forgotten radio inside. She lay on the grass, turning the advertisement back on. "...An amazing place for all kinds to connect! Plus! Don't have legs? No problem! We got a working tube system for all you fishy friends. Into after school activites? Amazing! Spell casting, Archery, Science, Drama, and so many more activies are waiting for you!"
"See? It sounds amazing. Plus they let everyone go there!!" Fae stated proudly, quickly adding. "And! Mae is also going there!!" Mae was Fae's older cousin, Mae is currently 17 going on 18, so a senior.
"Wait actually??" Snarl asked, suprized by this.
"Do you see her alot?" Bloodsoul added, genuinely curious.
"Yeah! All the time, she says that they even have a place for wrestling." Fae said proudly, glad her older cousin went there. Azar called from the kitchen, the Cerberus brothers' mother walking in to join them for dinner. "Dinner!" The trio rushed in, pushing each other back to be the first one at the table.
"Hey move!! I was here first Snarl!" Bloodsoul argued, elbowing Snarl.
"Nu-uh! I was move it hound!!" All three of Snarl's heads growled in unison. Azar chuckling along with the brothers' mother, Mrs. Darkmoon. "Boys, just sit down at the goddamn table." The boys quickly found different seats, keeping close to Fae. As always.
Mrs. Darkmoon, or Luna, broke the silence, swallowing her chewed food to speak. "I heard you wanted to attend Atalas Pillar Fae?" Fae nodded eagerly, hoping that Luna would pursue the idea of going their early. Even if she still was in middle school.
"Well." Azar started, mingling with the idea.
