The Accident

Sarah Rodriguez was driving calmly along an empty road, heading toward a small isolated community high up in the mountains.

The SUV’s headlights struggled against the thick fog that covered the road and made the forest look even more ghostly. The full moon barely showed through the dark clouds. The air was cold, and the silence was broken only by the sound of tires on the wet pavement.

She had come to Silver Hollow to cover a story about the mysterious disappearances haunting the remote mountain village. Young people vanishing without a trace. The local police had no plausible explanation, and the case was treated superficially. The residents, on the other hand, spoke of shadows in the woods and eerie howls. Sarah needed to prove she was more than just a small-town reporter, and this was the perfect opportunity.

As the road curved sharply into the mountain, a car suddenly appeared through the dense fog. The driver tried to brake, but it was too late. The two cars collided head-on with a sharp crash that shattered the silence of the mountains. The SUV Sarah was in spun across the road, slammed into the stone guardrail, and flipped over, tumbling down the ravine.

The deafening crash echoed through the forest. Sarah was left hanging from her seatbelt, unconscious. The vehicle was wedged between two tree trunks, its wheels pointing upward.

Kael Blackthorn was in the forest, about a kilometer from the road, patrolling the edge of his pack’s territory. He heard the screech of tires and the metallic crash cutting through the stillness. The scent of blood and gasoline lingered in the air, carried by the wind.

He knew he had to keep his distance from humans, not interfering with anything beyond his territory unless it posed a threat. But with the rival pack already causing trouble, there was no guarantee they weren’t behind the accident. He needed to check.

Before long, Kael spotted one of the cars overturned on the wet road, its headlights still on. The fog made it impossible to see who was inside. As he approached, he found a man trapped behind the wheel, eyes wide open, blood dripping from his nose, but with no audible heartbeat.

The guardrail was broken, and Kael knew the other vehicle had fallen down the slope, but he couldn’t leave the road—the other side already belonged to enemy territory.

He turned to leave when he caught the smell of smoke, gasoline, and more blood rising from below. With fuel leaking, even in the damp air, a fire was inevitable. But if he dared to cross that guardrail, the consequences could be irreversible.

Kael hesitated for a few seconds, then decided to act, even knowing that if he were caught inside enemy territory, he could be killed without a chance to explain.

With a single leap, he cleared the guardrail and landed near the car. Sarah was unconscious, her face smeared with blood, yet there was something soft in her expression—very different from what he believed humans to be. She looked badly injured, and drops of blood fell from her forehead onto a pool of gasoline on the wreckage. Her heart was beating slowly.

She didn’t seem like a threat. And in the next few seconds, he had to decide whether she would live or be left to die in that forest, far from everything.

Kael studied her face carefully, as if searching for recognition, and then, even with much of the car trapped between two trees, he tore the crushed door free with almost no effort.

Instantly, the sweet scent of her perfume seemed to fill not only his senses, but something deeper within him.

He pulled a knife from his belt and cut the seatbelt while holding her with his other arm. Sarah felt almost weightless, completely defenseless in his arms. For some reason, he couldn’t ignore her presence—not even for a second.

Kael hesitated again before taking the next step. Humans were strictly forbidden within pack territory. Taking her with him wasn’t just breaking a rule—it was a direct affront to the Alpha. Still, something inside him urged him to save her.

Without a word, he climbed the slope quickly with her in his arms. The rival pack had surely heard the crash and caught the scent of blood and would soon come to investigate what had happened in their territory. But they weren’t the ones Kael needed to worry about.

On the other side of the road, where he had come from, members of his pack were already waiting. Among them, a young blonde woman glared at him with deadly hatred as she saw the human in his arms. They all knew he had broken more than one rule—and risked his life crossing the road.

“What have you done?” she said quietly, as if restraining herself from killing him, as he walked toward her in slow steps.

“We’re going back,” Kael replied, neutral.

“What? Are you insane? You’re not bringing a human with us.”

“It’s not up for discussion.”

“If you take one more step, I’ll be forced to kill her right here.” She stepped forward, blocking his path with her body.

“Go ahead, Elara.”

“You’ve completely lost your mind. The Alpha needs to know about this,” she whispered, before running into the forest.

The pack lived in something that looked like a cave from the outside, but inside it had been carved out.

It was full of entrances and passageways that led to a central open area within the rock, where council meetings took place.

Narrower tunnels branched off into chambers used as living quarters.

When he arrived with Sarah, guards were already waiting at the entrance, alerted by Elara. They even tried to stop him, but they couldn’t challenge the son of the great Alpha and future successor.

Elara appeared again, threatening to call Kael’s father, the Alpha, if he didn’t abandon the idea, but he completely ignored her. He walked past her with Sarah in his arms and carried her to one of the inner chambers, more isolated, where the injured were usually treated. He laid her gently on a bed of soft furs.

Her scent, clinging to his strong body, filled his senses and made his pulse quicken involuntarily.

Outside the door, the pack’s voices remained tense and low, filled with disapproval.

Sarah remained unconscious, unaware of the world of werewolves around her. She had no idea where she was—nor that creatures like Kael even existed.

And Kael Blackthorn, the future Alpha promised to another, couldn’t take his eyes off the human he had just brought into the pack under the full moon.

He let her rest after cleaning her wounds and replacing her torn clothes.

Deep down, he knew bringing her there might have been the greatest mistake of his life—one that would carry irreversible consequences, along with conflict with his father, the pack, and especially Elara.

But now it was too late to turn back. Her life was once again in his hands, and he wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
