26.2
Breath fogs the morning air. A glint just off the trail catches my eye. I grab it. 'This colour makes no sense for quartz. What is this?'
Stuffing the gem in my pocket, I'm back on pace, and make the office by 9:00am.
At my desk, I examine it. The vivid blue colouration. 'It catches light like glass, not stone.' No flaws or clouding.
I set the stone aside and focus on my work. All tasks done, it's time for some tinkering. Placing clips onto the crystal I fire up my equipment.
'That is so…' I trail off, as I look at the readings. 'The signal's… clean. Too clean. What the hell are you?'
Turning the dial I approach 26KHz. The crystal glows in soft hues of blue — pulsing in regular beats. I fixate on the pulsing luminance. The oscillations build as the frequency jumps to 26.2KHz.
The stone resonates, it's hum echoing around the room. The glow intensifies along with my panic. Light seems to fall into it. Stretching and bending, like matter itself is being twisted. Sounds soften as if dull and distant.
The last thing I hear… someone opening my door, a distant voice calling my name, 'James.'
Then silence. Darkness. 'Hello.'
