Knocked off

"You only care about yourself and no one else that's the truth !" A woman was yelling at her daughter .

Mother:" That's what I want to say to her face but now ? Not at all I won't even look at her now she doesn't even deserve my glance!" She was huffing with anger .

Mom: "And you tell me y/n why you only see the pain of Mae( elder sister ) not mine ?! Is my pain invisible to you like it is for everyone else ?! I never expected that from you!"

Saou yourself know that's not the truth I love you both a lot why can't you understand this?! I am just too disturbed by the situation you two are putting me in love you two alot and I can't see you guys drifting apart from each other! I just want you to let it go simple. Don't do anything special just Become normal . Is that too much to ask?!"She was also getting red with anger. Her face was flushing so much that anyone could tell how much she was pissed.

Mom:"Then go and ask her to apologize!" She said non chantly .

Sana:"But-!" She wanted to protest .

Mom:"END OF THE DISCUSSION!"she announced and left.

It was early in the morning when they had a heated argument. Sana and her sister Mae had to leave to their respective jobs. Mae was a physiotherapist who used to work under one of the recognized surgeons.

Meanwhile Sana was a pharmacist and loved to create medicines. She was obsessed with her job. But due to recent fights between her mom and elder sister had disturbed her so much that she forgot about one culture that was under observation and was supposed to be checked two days earlier. Their mother used to work with Sana,she was an incharge to keep everything in control so they used to hangout together.

Sana's pov:

"stupid stupid stupid! How can I be so careless to forget about it?! That's extremely embarrassing! Gosh what now? Let me just analyze it a bit!"I was about to start the process of analyzation after putting the defective experiment on the counter when my mobile rang.

"Great now I even forgot to put it on vibration. I seriously need therapy."

(On the call)

Sana:"What is it Mae?"

Mae:"I wanted to talk to you if you are free."

Y/n:"Mae I am already more than pissed! Don't make me more! Just tell me what's wrong?"

Mae:"Why? Something happened in the lab?"

Y/n:"Guess what I forgot to check the culture I prepared 3 days ago it was supposed to be Checked and disposed of the day before yesterday!"

Mae:"It's okay what happened It has already happened you can't change it at all. Throw the culture away don't you dare do your stupid analyzation on it. It would be dangerous."

Sana:"I was just about to do that ." I said while holding the Petri dish in my hand.

Mae:" See?"

Sana:"I think you are right let's just throw it I will prepare a new one and put on an alarm so I don't forget."

Mae:" Good. Now your mood is ruined I know how to fix it. Pickup your bag and come to cafe."

Sana:"Are you perhaps kidding me? Mae it's not the break time!"

Mae:"Come on you are way more professional at making excuses. If you want me to praise you more then...... forget about it anyway if you come in cafe in 5 minutes it's my treat otherwise you know me well!" She hung up.

I picked up the Petri dish and put in in the glass case do no one touches it.

(For those who don't know: Such things require proper disposal after killing the organism so they don't cause infection.)

It will take more time to dispose them all off so I will do it the first thing after come upstairs.

Sana:"Mam I am feeling dizzy can I just go to cafe and grab something really quick?"

Mam:" Didn't had the breakfast again?"

Sana:"Yes (lying)"

Mam:"Sure but try to make it quick."

Sana:"Thanks mam you are the best!"

Mam:"This girl and her love for food is unmatched!" She shaked her head and started to work .

Sana:"Well as we both know you aren't giving me these favours for free so come to the point!"

Mae:"Hehehehe you are so smart . Anyways I overheard your and mom's conversation today. I know this time we both aren't at fault."

Sana:"You know that she won't get any better unless you apologize so what's the deal in doing it now ?"

Mae:"Okay don't worry I will do it tomorrow!"

Sana:"ah? Why tomorrow?"

Mae:"Silly we would go out tomorrow like on a mother daughter date I would take her to her favorite park and I will discuss everything with her."

Sana:"Oh. You better ! Now I should go back ."

Mae:"Okay tata!"

Sana:"Tata "

Author's pov:

"What the hell?!" Y/n screamed at the top of her lungs.Who came in my cabin she kept asking people but no one knew who got inside her cabin in her absence. She was running in the corridor in search of that person.

Sana:"No no no no no that is a virus . Come on come on!"

Noah:"Sana what up why are you running like a mad person!" He shouted laughing. But after seeing her face he became serious.

Noah:"What's the matter?"

Sana:"Abi I had to dispose off a culture and was a very dangerous one therefore I left it in a glass case so no one touches it. But now the case is broken and culture is gone. The culture we worked on together.

"At this time her tears were streaming down on hr cheeks uncomfortably.

Noah:"Who went in your cabin?!"

Sana:"I don't know Abi but it's really dangerous the person might get infected it will be entirely my fault then! Please help me!" She said almost pleading.

Sana:"It's okay calm down let's look for the person. Wait a moment let's go to incharge first no no let's go to our mam."He said and started to lead the way. They came inside the office after knocking on it.

Mam:"What happened to Sana why are you crying?"

Noah:"Mam we are in a huge trouble we need your help!" With that he explained the situation.

Mam:"Oh no that's a big trouble. Let's go and check CCTV camera footage it might give us a lead." She said and they immediately left towards the office.

In the Hallway:

Incharge:"What's the matter? What are you standing here instead of going to your respective spots?!"

Someone spoke:"Mam what's this?"

She held the laptop to see a huge commotion in the cafe.

People were behaving weirdly. They were panicking. She immediately rushed to the security office of the building to gather the information. When suddenly the door of office opened with a thud . The other madam entered with Sana and Noah.

Sana's mother: "Sabira?! What's wrong?"

Sabira:"Laura I have no time to explain now a very dangerous culture is missing it is a disastrous situation. Sir can you please show Cabin on the 3rd floor cabin no 5 that belongs to professor Sana. I want a footage of an hour ago. Play it on the maximum speed!" She was panicking herself.

Laura was still confused and the students that just came to her were still waiting outside the office

Sana:"Stop! That's a maid oh god no no she knocked it off by mistake . Can you please show me the view of the other camera in my office I need to make sure is she injured or not?!"

The officer changed the view .

The eyes of all 4 of them were wide open .

Sana+Noah:"No! Locate that maid immediately see where she went after that. We need to know her location!"

Officer kept checking and again in the view was where the cafe was located .

Sana:"No no no!" She grabbed Noah's arm and rushed out.

They ran at full speed from floor t loor and saw the woman struggling to breath.

Sana rushed to her followed by Noah. They immediately poured water on her to see whether she was in her senses.

She opened her eyes and said.

"I ...am .....sorr.....sorry ...professor......

Y/n I .....knocked......off your experiment by ....mi.....mistake. I am so sor....." She lost her senses. Y/n and Noah immediately called for staff to shift her to an experimental room so they could save her life and kept standing there.

Mae was watching everything from far. She ran to her sister.

Mae:" Sana! Noah! what happened?!"

Noah:"The maid knocked off our one of the most dangerous and contaminated culture and injured herself in the process inshort she is infected we would have to Quarantine her good thing she is unconscious."

Mae:"Both of you come here sit down and have some water first you two look like you might faint." They sat down and rescue teams took the maid to the emergency room at the same floor. Sana was anxious and Noah was trying to comfort her.

Mae:"Oh please Noah do your romance somewhere else my eyes and ears are burning!" She said dramatically.

Noah:"Ha! not our fault you are a single bean. No no single bittercord."

Sana:"Let's go upstairs to my cabin. I want to read my research again so I could treat the maid better."

Mae and Noah nodded and left with Sana.

Laura and Sabira were already waiting there. Laura was anxious about her daughter and immediately hugged her when she came back. They saw everything on the camera.

Sana and Noah were extremely ashamed of the situation in which they weren't entirely at fault. Because before disposing of the culture off Sana was going to analyze it and place the observations in her research. Laura told other members who were still waiting for the reason of commotion that everything was now under control. When she came back she noticed Mae there too and became dead serious all of the sudden.

Sabira :"Sana? Do I need to ask you and Noah or are you two gonna explain yourself."

Noah:"Mam we were suppose to analyze it properly before disposing the culture. That's why Y/n put it in the case so no one touches it. Maid never knew and the following accident happened. Next time we will inform the servants beforehand when we will perform such experiments to not to clean our cabin so no such accidents happen."

Sabira:"You better!" She said firmly and opened the door to walk out when all of them heard multiple screams.

They were about to run when the officer who showed them footage earlier rushed in and locked the door .

Laura:"What is happening?!"

Officer:" Mam there is an outbreak of a disease. People are literally biting each other off. You can't come out."

Sabira:"Are you in your senses ?!"

Officer:"I came inside to inform you all. As both the in charge were here. I have informed the higher ups and the gates are closed the building is now in Quarantine."

"What?" Now Mae shouted for the first time.

Mae:" Are you saying we are stuck here?" She was visibly sweating at the moment.

Officer:"Yes !" He said firmly barricading the door .

Noah:"What is actually happening how can it happen? I need to see the footage of the current situation to know the situation better."

Officer:"This cabin is closest to the security office but we cannot keep moving right now. I knew you would ask for it so I copied the footage." Before he could hand them the USB loud announcements were made to other members present in the building to not to come out of their cabins at all and the higher floors started to barricade the stairs and break the elevator so no infected person would move to higher floors.

Noah looked at the officer and asked him to barricade the stairway and break the elevator with him.

They rushed out to do so and barricade both of the routes. And Strictly ordered everyone to not to come out at any cost.

When Noah came back he saw

Sana sitting in a corner he rushed to her .

Noah:"Sana?!"

Y/n:"It's my fault. It was a contaminated culture that caused mutation and this infection occurred. This is entirely my fault."

Noah was taken a back

Mae:"Abi! The maid is the first infected person. We are doomed!"

She screamed and tears were sparkling in her eyes. Laura and Sabira were dead silent they didn't know what to do who to blame.

Noah was Sana's husband his nick name was Abi. Noah and Y/n were shocked to their cores.They felt that a whole building crashed on their heads.

Sana put her head on his shoulder still crying that made him get a little grip e immediately sat up straight and made Y/n face him . He shook her and spoke firmly with teary eyes .

"Nothing is your fault you get it?! Everything happens by accident. We can save lives. That's what we are here for! Get a grip come on that's not the Sana I know she can't lose.Wake up!"

Sana looked into his eyes and nodded. They were unaware about the situation on the ground floor and that's what was making them anxious Mae wasn't even talking she was just staring in front of her blankly.

Sana already saw the footage of the start of infection but she wanted to know the current situation. Noah was anxious as well .

"Officer John can you please take me to the security office i need to know the current situation." Noah said .

Sana:" I would go with you!"

Officer John:" Stairway is barricaded so I think we have a little time you guys should go I will stay here till then these women can't be left alone in this situation." He explained.

Sana and Noah left to the office.

As soon as they came out John barricaded the door again Noah was about to knock when Sana held his hand. He turned around to see her weeping again.

Noah:"Why ?"

Sana:" I don't wanna die so soon! I didn't even get shifted with you. I am so sorry that I had to stay at my mom's place due to the recent fights between my mother and sister. I wanted to spend my remaining life with you. You are understanding what I am saying right?"

Noah:"No it's my fault I should have bought our apartment before marriage. So you could shift beforehand I thought I could live in dorms till we get married. I never knew that we had to buy our own place before actually taking the responsibility of another person . But no issues we will survive and we will live together don't worry . I love you honey now please smile and don't break my heart by crying. "

Sana:"I love you too."

They went inside to see all the screens off . One of the officers saw them and said dead serious.

"Nothing is there to see!"

Sana:"Sir we need to know the recent situation please try to understand and let us see the footage!" She tried to explain when the office stood up angrily.

Officer:"There is nothing! What part did you not understand inthere is NOTHING!" He was on the verge of breaking..... Into tears.

Another officer showed them the footage.

Sana:"He is right there is .....there is.... nothing."

Noah couldn't even speak after looking at the footage that almost everyone was infected not a single healthy person could be seen. Everyone on the ground floor, first and second floor was infected. The infected people were roaming everywhere. They weren't walking like a normal person that was more like they were dragging themselves. Their necks were slightly tilted that showed their veins getting dark purplish. There was blood dropping from their chins. Their eyes weren't normal either but because cameras were on the roof so their eyes condition wasn't clear. A person was running after getting bitten but he kept falling again and again the infected ones were chasing him like a pack of animals chasing their prey. When he fell for this time an infected person grabbed him and started to bite him more like eating him alive.

The footage was switched off again by the officers and Noah pulled Y/n out of there. She was literally shivering. When they came out they started to hear growls of the people they were standing there not being able to comprehend what to do when someone held hands of both of them and pulled them back in their cabin.

Laura:"What the heck you two were doing standing outside are you stupid?!"

Noah:" No one is left downstairs. All are infected."He stated sadly.

Laura:"I know but did you hear the growls?! Those infected can definitely detect our existence somehow. Right now staying in the room is safe. No one walks out is that clear!" She asked.

No one said anything but everyone nodded . That's when Sana and Noa ome to know that everyone who was present on the third floor was now in their cabin they were all together almost 20 people including an officer , officer John.

The day passed and everyone was quiet not saying a thing.

Noah was sitting next to Sana and Mae. Sana was dead silent but Mae was a bit better than before.

Mae:"Abi ?"

Noah:"Yes Mae ?"

Mae:"You know I was so happy when you and Sana got married. I was extremely pleased. It was like I won in life . She brought me up and I brought her up. She is like the most important person in my life alongside mother. "She said.

Noah was confused why Mae was speaking like this Mae never used to speak about her emotions usually.

Noah:"Why are you telling me that?"

Mae:"In case I couldn't survive. You can tell her what she actually means to me."

Sana showed no reaction. Mae was sad again so she stood up to sit somewhere else.

Sana:" Noah says I know you want to say something."

Noah:"You heard what Mae said?" He asked.

Sana:"Of course I was sitting right next to her." She said.

Noah:"Then why didn't you say anything ?"

Sana:" Because not everything is needed to be said at the last moments Abi. Showing love is also an important part of loving someone. So she is simply too late."She said disappointed.

Noah:"I love the day we got married. I never imagined that we would get together someday. We are classmates from literally the matriculation level. But I never knew you well until we both sat together by chance and you spoke to me for the first time normally. I used to think that you are an idiotic, egoist and self centere oman but I was wrong. You became my family. You became everything of mine. Thanks fo oming into my life my wifey." He said smiling. Sana couldn't help but to kiss his forehead. She loved him, how much? she could never understand. Noah went to Sabira while Y/n went to Lauren.

Sana:"Isn't it the time to forget the anger and make things normal Miss Lauren?"

Lauren:"You are right I should go to Mae to make things work between us.

It was midnight and everyone was dying of hunger. Mae and Lauren are also good now.

Sana and Noah volunteered to go downstairs to fetch food from cafe? Was it their guilt or some other reason they volunteered to go, it was something they didn't know themselves.

They took out the sand Sana saved for another experiment and rubbed it on their skins to decrease their scent because the footage they saw earlier was a lead. They thought the infected ones were attracted to scent and they kinda confirmed it when they heard the growls while standing outside of the security office earlier. They went silently towards the cafe and took a bag full of food. They were walking up stairs when they saw the infected people were following them. They kept running and running. They tried to close the door when Sana screamed with pain Noa ooked down to see she was getting bitten she looked at Noah horrified who pulled her in and closed the door and barricaded it. Infected were hitting the door for a few minutes then stopped and the hallway became dead silent again.

Noah's heart skipped a beat. His eyes were teary. Sana lost her balance and sat on the floor next to the door.

He immediately tied her leg tightly but they knew she wouldn't last long. She looked at him and remembered the first time she saw him such a caring and amazing person that she almost mistook him as a fraud. She was on a roller coaster of emotions all of the sudden. She remembered the day he approached her as a friend to become her life partner. She remembered those moments when she agreed after a week of his proposal and he was crying with happiness. She was about to smile remembering those serene moments when those happy teary eyes turned to shocked eyes which were streaming tears constantly.

Noah was no better he knew what was happening to her he knew she might not survive now. He didn't want to remember any single memory but he wanted to spend more time with her. He wanted to achieve the best of the time they had left together. There was no will in him to live any longer if it was without her. He knew he would be a burden if he lived. He took both bags from her hands and ran towards the cabin knocking hard .

Noah:" Open the door Quickly! He yelled. John immediately opened the door and gave him all the bags and started to speak firmly with tears streaming down his face uncontrollably.

"Don't you dare let anyone open the door for me and my WIFE (he just wanted to call her his till the last moment). We are infected. We don't know how much longer we would stay in control ourselves now close the door!" And he shut the door himself. Laura's cries could be heard from inside.

He ran back to her. Her veins started to turn purplish. It seemed like she was turning. She shouted at him once she saw him running towards her .

Sana:"Have you lost your mind? Get in idiot. Get lost from my eyes!" She was screaming at him.

He just held her cheeks warmly and looked into her eyes.

Noah:"Shhhh I never vowed on our marriage to leave you alone . I vowed to protect you."

He said smiling in tears .

Sana:" You can't protect me any longer. Please go and save yourself otherwise you will get infected. I can't injure you please!" She said trying to push him away but stopped at his words when he said.

"Do you think I would survive?! DO YOU THINK I WILL LIVE AFTER SEEING YOU DIE IN FRONT OF MY EYES.?!" he was crying hard now.

She was getting overwhelmed with the emotions and started to cry hard as well. She started to take his scent. She was also growling at this point.

Sana:"Ah!" She was feeling extreme pain and thud she collapsed all she heard was her name from his lips when he screamed to see her.

Blackout.

"Sana!!!!" Lauren was yelling. You are getting late for work ,wake up. She woke up to realize it was a nightmare. She realized that she was sweating And her pillow was also wet and indicated she was crying. Her heart was pounding so hard. She was hyperventilating.

Lauren:"Noah is coming to pick you up." Sana tried to stand up when she say back down as her leg hurt a lot. She lifted the duvet to see a big human bite mark on her leg and she started to feel the urge to bite someone off! To bite her mother .....

On the other hand Noah sitting in the car wiped the blood off his chi .....
