“What are they doing?” I stood up, my chair screeched across the room like a ripple in a bathtub. I walked over to see a news broadcast

“This coming in folks there is an outbreak which scientists are calling a zombie apocalypse all throughout Canada, my name's Jett and im on the streets on Montreal today and if you look ove-”

I looked away for a moment just to see if anyone was at my desk, my pens were still inside my pencil case like they're supposed to be. When I looked back down I saw nothing but blood and guts on the lens. Pure, guttural cries came behind the camera before going quiet.

“Lock down drill. Lock down drill. Please lock your doors and keep quiet, follow the teacher's instructions.”

“Just so fucking great.” I thought to myself

“I'd just love to be locked in here with people I would rather feed to zombies.”

Before everyone started to move I walked back to my desk and packed up my books and supplies quickly before walking to the door.

“Where do you think you're going?” I turned back to see my teacher standing in front of me, her face stricken with surprise and fear while my classmates had their backs against the walls like sheep.

I give them all a light hollow smile-one that doesn't reach my eyes. “I’m going to my locker, everyone. You all should tell me your lock code so I can grab your stuff too while I'm at it.” it's all just perfect leverage so they can trust me.

“32-12-19” a shy voice whispered throughout the crowd

My eyes scanned through the crowd until they landed on tsuki, the exchange student. She looked like a Japanese adult actor forced into stereotypical public school dress code-wide eyes and innocence so forced it looks like she's trying to compete with a baby, regardless she was hot enough.

I pulled out my writing pen and scribbled her name next to the code on a notepad.

“Anyone else!?” I called out, already trying to turn back to the door

“I-it's 08-12-32!” Xavier stuttered hard enough to make my mind crack. “P-please get my inhaler.” great weakness yet perfect leverage.

I write his name and code down then turn towards the door until I feel a hand grab my arm.

“I can't let you outside da'shaun, it's nothing more than a death wish.” Ms. Alvarez tries to get in-between me and the door.

“im actually trying to do something worthwhile. You haven't even shut the windows or do research to see if the zombies are actually real. Now move on, miss.” she looked down in defeat and let go of my arm.

I stepped past her and opened the door, a loud squeak echoed across the school. “I have to do this, I have to be the “savior”.” I headed up the stairs to the second floor where our lockers are.

I got to my locker 2099, I opened with my code 36-22-12. When I opened it up I saw my bag, my phone, and my headphones. I grabbed my jacket too while I was at it.

Then I went to tsuki's locker and I opened it. All I saw was makeup and perfume, “at least she can keep herself pretty for me.”I stuffed her makeup bag and her collection of perfume into my bag.

When I was walking down to Xavier's locker I saw something down the hall, a figure maybe around 5’9, it was slightly hunched over but scariest of all it was definitely staring at me.

I prepped myself, and waited for it to come towards me, this could be a chance for me to learn more about it. I got into a regular fighting stance.

As it began to charge towards me I realized it was slow, something that I can outrun with a light jog. I waited until it was in arms reach and punched its head off. I stepped back in shock once I realized how fragile it is, “its like wet cardboard!” I exclaimed like i just saw water after thirsting in a desert

I pull out my notepad and start writing all of the information I just observed “weak” “slow” “mushy” until I got some blood on my notepad and put it away to not damage it further.

I walk over to Xavier's locker, click, he had the newer locks since he was a privileged boy. I opened it up and saw nothing but papers, an inhaler, and one singular pocket knife at the bottom under a big hunk of a comics. Perfect.

I stuffed all of it in my bag and put the pocket knife in the chest pocket of my jacket. I walked slowly back to my class, letting my newfound leverage speak volumes for me. Knock. Knock. Knock.

I entered the classroom to see everyone staring at me, “what? Does the blood scare you that much?” I looked at them in a slightly unhinged manner.

I then pull out my bag and dump all of it on the floor, the notepad-the inhaler-the makeup-and the pocket knife. Tell me how much do you want this Xavier? “Alot sir, I need that to live” he whispered looking down at my shins, I picked it up and tossed it to him.

I turn to tsuki, keep yourself dolled up for me. Got that? I slid her makeup bag on the floor towards her, she looked at it with empty eyes then slowly picked it up. When she looked up at me and said thank you I saw hatred that could stand side by side with my own.

“How dare you!” I hear a stringy annoying voice trying to chastise me. I looked over to see zoé trying to organize some sort of prayer circle, my eyes felt like they were tattooed with the words idiotic and retard on them.

“Just what do you think you're doing?” I turn to her fully and walk in the middle of the circle. “We're praying, you sinful bastard!” She clutched her silver cross with tears in her eyes, I crouched down and I got in her face and flicked the zombie blood on my hands onto her face and shirt. “Praying to who? Praying to what?” My voice rises slightly as I try to look at her in another way other than cattle I would kill for a balanced breakfast. She looks down at the blood and then back up at me.

“God!” “God will save us all!” She exclaimed before I slapped her just enough to make her quit talking. It was a gunshot in a barrel, the old morals we all held onto are gone. “If God will save us then why did he make me walk into hell to go get my stuff?”

I give her one last disgusted look before standing up and walking back to the front of the class where I sit on a chair facing them all.

I stare through the crowd, zoé-xavier-tsuki-and the rest of them all looking at me while still avoiding eye contact. “I want this to be a civil democracy but until we all fully accept the zombie apocalypse let's follow the teacher's orders.” I look at Ms. Alvarez with a smile of trickery and assessment. “W-well i think we should stay here but I don't think it's safe anymore” she's sweating like a pig doused in glaze. “Let's head to our houses!” She announces and wipes the sweat from her brow. “Everyone here is my number, call me if anything wrong happens. We'll meet each other back at the school right here in class, I want everyone to go in pairs regarding house or apartment distance.” She stands a bit more confidently yet I can tell she's still faltering.

I stand up and walk to the door, I turn before leaving and ask if anyone plans to come with me, a crow landed on the windowsill and cawed “brekfast!” A shiver ran down my body, like my spine was pulled out from my back “i didn't say that out loud? Did I?” I turned around and walked down the hallway without caring who was following me.

Two footsteps came behind me, one more pronounced and ready while the other was walking like they were trying to escape from whatever thing they're running from. I turned my head back to see tsuki and Xavier side by side but not speaking, tsuki had put on purple lipstick, it made my cheeks blush. Xavier looked more calm, I think he took a few puffs of his inhaler.

We exited the school through the back entrance, just to see jade kicking some rocks at a crashed car. “Hey there jesters and jesttes” her voice dripping with mockery and amusement “i suppose we're heading to you're house right?” She begins to fall into step next to us as we head back to my house.

“I live on walkley, down by cote-saint-luc, we'll go there okay?” Tsuki and Xavier nod while jade continues to sing to herself in the background. “What's this girl's deal, why is she singing when we could all be ambushed and killed by who knows fucking what” my hands shake a little with each step until i look up to see another crow, indistinguishable from the other one

I walk ahead faster trying to keep my cool before I freak out and blow everything

“So tsuki did you put on lipstick for the zombies or for the king? Jade got behind me and tsuki and looked between us. I looked at tsuki and she whispered “the ladder” while making slight eye contact with me. “So kiss him. Do it.” Jade's breath is now on my neck, I'm worried. Tsuki looks at me fully and leans in, I almost inch backwards until Jade pushes me further and my lips touch tsuki's, it was nice but did I deserve it.

CHAPTER 2: A SNAKE WITHOUT FANGS

“Please stay in the living room guys, the kitchen and bathroom are there if you need to do anything. I'll be in my room only for a little bit.” I walked off to my room, I opened the door and shut it.

“FUCCCCKKKKK!” I screamed and threw my dresser to the floor, I throwed my bag across the room and kicked my bed frame until it snapped. I screamed again but this time I gagged on my own wails. I start tearing up and crying on the floor.

“Dashaun is so hot when he's like this” tsuki presses her ear against the wall to hear his cries, “my leader oh my leader.” “Keep hurting for me.” She kisses the wall before entering the room.

“Dashaun” a voice calls out like a threat and a prayer. Tsuki walked in and stood between us “let's go find Xavier guys, now.” She grabs my hand and leads me out of the room. As we walk down the hallway we see Xavier in the living room looking down at his phone.

As I almost inch towards young I felt Jade's gaze melting through the back of my skull “don't do it da'shaun” jade calls out once. “What did you find Xavier? It better be useful.” I grab the phone and pull it up to my face to see many pictures of my younger self in band tees and anime cosplays

“Where did you get this? Tell me now.” My face burrows in annoyance, I saw a kid with light in his eyes, along with the hatred so deep in his heart but he was still human. Unlike me who has girls in my ears talking about murder and equality.

Xavier sits there like a rabbit with a barrel pressed against its head, “i-i learned more about the zombies too!” He cries out “there's three types so far, the one you killed beforehand should have been a regular one, but the two new ones are faster and smarter, one has an intelligence of 140 while the other is 2 kmph faster than Usain bolt's world record.”

He grabs the phone back and shows me proof of his claims, videos across the world and survivor groups around trying to document and communicate with the zombies. He was a rabbit, a small one for sure, but a rabbit that can see the approaching hunters in the horizon.

“140 iq? That could rival me god damnit” my hands shook until tsuki grabbed my arm again even tighter than last time. “they aren't anything compared to you my king” but I didn't care, I turned to jade and our eyes shared the same thought “we're trapped in a city with zombies that can kill the world record sprinter in seconds” I said loud enough for everyone to hear clearly.

We all break into our own sprints, Xavier heading towards the bathroom to grab supplies, I head towards the garage to get planks to board up windows, tsuki follows behind me closely like a shadow and jade heads to stock up food and grab knives.

I reached the planks and grabbed nails and a hammer, I boarded up the living room windows and the front door, I ran into the kitchen and almost tripped and fell on my face.

Jade and tsuki caught me before I fell, I didn't look at them but I felt their eyes staring at each other like laser beams versus plasma waves “i can stand on my own guys” I lied, my legs cobbled yet I continued pushing myself no matter what.

I finished the downstairs windows and the doors, I checked the upstairs windows to see if they were already boarded and I saw they were boarded better than mine downstairs “me and Xavier did that while you were downstairs” jade called out behind me. “Let's go into the basement, me and Xavier finished our jobs early so everything is piled down there.” She grabbed my arm but it didn't feel like tsuki's torsion, it felt like security instead.

Let go of me, “you're my friend dashaun, don't turn into my enemy please” she dragged me down the steps of the basement. Until we reached the main room, I saw the pills and bandages alongside the knives and canned food. But I made eye contact with tsuki who wasn't glaring daggers at me but she was basically stabbing my eyes with her glare.

As we all stood in the center of the basement I felt Jade's hand let go of my arm yet her words stayed. Friend. I was never a friend, I was a monster, a victim to this world's hatred and disgust. I saw tsuki sitting on the laundry machine i pushed beforehand and she was staring at the spot where jade had held me, “uh guys, come look at this” Xavier shows his phone to us and I watch the video sent from Alexander the teacher's pet of the class, all I saw was a horde of zombies heading towards the school.

The basement turned suffocating, I gasped for breath before anyone even processed what we all just saw, “don't do it.” Tsuki and jade said at the same time, different tones and different meanings. Xavier was fiddling with his inhaler trying to take breath. I looked at them to see them both staring each other down again. “My king shouldn't have to leave his sanctuary for people who don't care about him like I do.” Tsuki spat on the floor and got closer to jade. “my friend wouldn't leave people to die even if they don't care” jade pushed her back.

“Quit it!” I screamed at them. “If I don't do anything im just a fucking coward with two guns” I stumble over myself and catch myself on a wall. “A king is supposed to conquer so let me conquer those zombies. And a friend is supposed to save so let me save them all…please.” I headed towards the basement stairs and opened the door. I saw a zombie down the hall and I shot it dead. I had no fear except the fear of losing the only two girls who paid attention to me.

Chapter 3: a human's fear and a devil's pride

I entered my garage and I already saw it, a beautiful minivan my mother always drove, it was popping red, one of the cars you'd see in commercials. I opened the doors and ushered everyone inside before hopping in myself, “I don't know how to drive” I said until Jade rubbed my shoulder and said "I know a thing or two. After all, I have grand theft auto on my list of crimes.”

She basically threw me out of the driver's seat and took the wheel, Xavier opened the garage doors and she took off so fast I felt my chair recline for a moment.

I looked outside and saw some zombies, maybe 10 per street yet I still felt some sort of dread inside me. I looked at Xavier and asked him if everyone else was okay. “Yeah they boarded themselves up in 106, they should be okay for the next five minutes.” “Keep going, jade , we should reach them before the zombies get them again.”

I look at the window one last time and see the speed zombies running after us, four or five, 7 meters away and gaining. I didn't care, I poked my arm out the window a shot one of them in the head, its entire skull exploded like a raw egg cracking, I shoot at another one's leg and it fell and slid against the asphalt until most of its body was scraped halfway “they've gotten even weaker yet numbers are slightly better!” I call and tell Xavier to take notes.

I shoot the rest of the zombies in the head and watch them pop like balloons, I look back at the front to see a road block being set up by two zombies, I look further and I saw zombies parking and rearranging cars to block our way “jade watch out we could crash” i brace myself until Jade rides the car over a knocked over road sign and she flips us through the air like a golden rectangle, we flip and flip and flip until we land back on our wheels

Tsuki brushes it off and says its not impressive and puts her hand on my thigh, I look down and she's rubbing my thigh over and over again like a cat, I look at her and she's not paying attention to me, she's making eye contact with jade in the rear view mirror, I try squirming but she pressed harder, I look away from her and try to stare through the window until I get a boner.

My face turns red as tsuki and jade are still having a stand off, Xavier is too tuned in to the safety of our classmates to see what's happening. CHAPTER 4: BETRAYAL OF PEERS

Suddenly I feel hands grab my waist and pull my revolvers from me, I turn around to see Zachary holding my revolvers, before I could turn around Ryan came from the back and restrained me. “Get off of my king!” Tsuki charged at them with a knife and Emily stepped in and punched her unconscious, I saw her body hit the ground with a thud. I thrashed and thrashed but I couldn't break free. Xavier tried to run but Alexander pushed him to the ground. Next thing I know we're all inside a classroom locked from the outside. Fucks sake

I'm the ugly, even I have to admit it, Xavier is the good, and whether you like it or not tsuki is the bad, but if you look right into yourself dashaun. You have them all, you have the want to be good but the urge to be bad, but you never exercise that use of the ugly, the only way out is if you'll be the ugly with me, the worse good than the best bad.” I looked up at her fully and stood up, before she said another word I hugged her.

She hugged be back, “then hurry the hell up and let's show these traitors how ugly we can be.” I grabbed a heavy binder and slammed into the doorknob until it broke, tsuki was stirring up and Xavier was still out cold. I turned back to the group and looked at them with pure acceptance.

CHAPTER 5: BACK AGAINST A WALL

I rushed into the hallway, my footsteps silent yet I ran with all my might, I headed towards the old classroom 106, I turned back and heard jade calming down the screeching tsuki, I opened the door to see it. Ms. Alvarez's corpse littered with pencils and pens stabbed all throughout. Did they kill her?

I shoved my hand in my mouth but it didn't stop me from puking, I felt eyes on the back of my head and I looked back to see a zombie leaning on a wall staring me down. Before I could step back the zombie lunged at me with a fist and punched my jaw, I retaliated with a simple punch to its chest and my whole arm went through. I ripped it in half for revenge.

I threw the zombie down and ran through the halls and got back to my group. I entered the room to see jade consoling a crying tsuki while Xavier walked around the room like a dope-head. “Ms. Alvarez is dead, these people aren't who we thought they were.” Everyone was in different places of the room yet I locked eyes with them all. “I will get us out of here. I will no matter what.”

I exited the room and walked up one flight of stairs. I was on the second floor where we crashed through. I got on top of the crashed van and screamed. After a while I heard footsteps, not the sound of the undead but the people who made others dead. I turn right to see Zoé's group armed with the knives I got jade to take from my kitchen.

I turned left to see Alexander's group armed with nothing but he had my revolvers in both of his hands. “So did you see what happened to the last person who tried to be our savior.” He spins my revolvers better than I ever did, I turn back to see Zoé trying to sneak up and stab me so I kick her off the car. But that was a mistake for her, her knife fell to the ground first and all I saw was her wide open eyes with a squeak coming from her open mouth. She was stabbed with her own knife.

CHAPTER 6: ONE'S OWN WAY

I saw Alexander aim young at my chest, I looked at him with nothing more than hatred, he hurt tsuki, he pushed Xavier like he was a ragdoll. And worse of all I have no clue if they did anything to jade. Bastard, my thoughts began to spiral, figuratively and literally, I almost fell off the car with how much my head was spinning, the bodies, zombies, the feeling of being loved so horribly, it spiraled into a singular point.

He shot the gun yet the bullet didn't hit me, he looked down the barrel to see if anything was wrong yet it was okay, he shot again and then I felt it. Something around me warped, looking at the bullet turning into dust in real time. I watched him shoot again and again before he ran out of bullets. They stood there watching me stand with the same look on their face.

I saw him raise old too. He started firing back and forth at me until I jumped off the car, I stared at him fully and felt my heavy heart being wrung out by an invisible force, I raised my hand out towards him as his body began to twist in a horrifying way his arms first, wringing out with each creak of the crisp air, then his legs cobbled yet he was standing.

I held my arm out again trying to reach for the guns and everyone jumped back. I'm truly a monster now. I crawled on the floor and grabbed my gun and reloaded them quickly, “DROP YOUR FUCKING WEAPONS!” I call out with an already broken voice. My head is spinning, my nose is bleeding blood a little too dark, my arm felt numb and static like it was sleeping for years.

I saw Zoé's group turn and run while Alexander's group stepped towards us, I shot Zachary in the abdomen and watched him stumble over before dying. I stood on my two feet before stumbling and letting jade catch me. I looked at her face expecting disappointment but I saw a quiet smile filled with tears of joy, “just lean back, okay?” Before I asked what was wrong she pulled me down and kissed me.

I pulled off her gently, I looked back at tsuki and I didn't see a look of hatred or jealousy in her eyes but an uncanny look of acceptance but another thing I saw was Xavier missing. “Xavier” I croaked like my throat was dragged against piles of glass.

Everyone's heads turned to look at the noise and they never turned away. I tried to look but my own neck was stiff as dried dirt. After one good push of my own body I saw Emily holding something. It was none other than Xavier's head..

FUCCCCCKKK!” I screamed with whatever I had left and was shaking after it, I had no strength left yet I still cried until my eyes were strained.

“Don't worry master, I told her she could have him so we could all be safe. You know how it is right?” I looked to see Tsuki trying to comfort me with her callous words. I just cried, no devil, no savior, yet it was still too ugly or wrong to be a human crying.

I held onto jade and begged her to not let go, “please let him rest jade, my will to yours.” I let go of her and let her stand up to face Emily. Emily tosses Xavier's head to the side and I choke on air as I watch it roll out of my sight.

“Da'shaun. I would tell you a million reasons why I love you but I can't right now. So I'll show my love through protecting you.” Jade looked back once and turned to Emily who had an amused look on her face.

“Come on and fight me then you punk. You can't match up to that worthle-” Jade hit her with a quick cross cut, she followed up with a kick to her side which sent her to the floor. Emily clawed at jade but it didn't matter, jade lifted her foot to stomp on Emily's head over and over again. It sounded worse than my guns.

THUMP.

THUMP.

SQUISH.

Emily's eye flew out of her socket and hit me in my forehead, and Jade didn't stop. She kept stomping until there was blood everywhere, it kept going until she was out of breath and sweating. I saw something in her that reminded me of myself. I really do love this girl.

The air settled, all I could focus on was her loud sighing and breathing, it was so honest. She walked back to me and lifted me up to two feet. “What are we doing with tsuki?” She rested against me and stared down the girl who once “loved” me. I turned to my right to see Alexander's group still there, “take your men and leave me alone” I shot one of them in their foot just for good measure.

They ran off, even the one with the shot foot had impeccable running form, they were scared and I did it properly.

“Oh da'sha-” I slapped tsuki hard. I slapped her again and again and again until I heard her giggle, “keep hitting me master, I want it all..” the feeling in my arm eased up as I continued beating her, I was turning sick myself with how much I enjoyed it, I was becoming like her.

SLAP.

jade slapped her too. I'm no longer alone in my sick worthless desires, I have something I craved for so long. A friend, as me and jade slapped tsuki till she cried we fasted on her tears, I.. No, we felt an ironic peace as the morning sun filtered through the windows and broken walls. “Please more..please more!” Tsuki cried and cried, she was getting off on this too. We're all sick. This world is sick but it's just the way it's supposed to be isn't it?

Tsuki slumped against the lockers as me and jade held each other tightly, the orange hue of the sun bouncing off of the blood on the group pierced my eyes but regardless it was a sight to see.

“Da'shaun, let's go to the roof. The zombies are gone so let's just relax for a moment.” With that said she took my arm gently and led me to the roof, we climbed up the ladder until we got to the top.

CHAPTER 8: A TRUE BEGINNING

As me and jade reach the roof we sit down on the ledge and i watch as my feet dangle off the ledge I laid my head on her shoulder, “no, no, I want to lay my head on your shoulder” she pushed my head off and puts her head in the nook of my collar.

“What was that thing you did to Alexander?” “I don't even know myself. It was something I can barely put a finger on. I'm sorr-” she put a finger up to my lips and kissed me, “if you want me to forgive you then how about you kiss me like you mean it, okay?” She pressed deeper until we both decided to let go.

“What bands do you like?” She wiped her lips and looked me in my eyes “enough to say im a fan of whatever name flies out of my mouth”, I copied her movement and wiped my mouth unconsciously. “The ramones?” “Love them, give me another” “Misfits?” “I loved them too, another.” It went on and on until we were laughing about our favorite albums.

“You're something dashaun. I hope we can either live together or die together.” “Same here.” I put my arm around hers and kissed her forehead, “what's our next course of action da'shaun?” She looks at me with a look I can't describe but it feels good.

“We're going to find the rest of our classmates and we're going to enslave or kill them. Got it?” “Got it.” I move my arm off of her yet we don't move. We just continue looking at the sunrise.

“Do you think we'll die?” I look into her eyes again, “do you think we'll live?” she looks back at me with a tired look, “you okay? You seem a bit tired, love.”

“Yeah I'm tired but we can sleep during the night.. Let's get some coffee and enact our war together.”

CHAPTER 9: HOW UGLY IS TOO UGLY

We climbed down the ladder and entered through the back door, we saw Ms. Alvarez's body yet we paid it no mind. After all, we have a new mission to fulfill.

We walked down the hallway and went up the stairs to the foyer where we left tsuki and she was gone.

I told jade to stay behind while I go up ahead to the lockers and as I walk up I slip in something. I catch myself using my hands and I bring my hand up to my face to see some sort of clear slimy liquid dripping down my hand. “Yuck, what the hell could this be?” I stood up and gestured to Jade to follow me to the bathroom.

I turned on the sink and began washing my hands, I then took off my pants and started washing them too. “Quite a package you got there huh?” “Shut up jade its average size, matter of fact I bet you're so damn wide you can f-” “easy there boy.” She took my hand and helped me get the last bit of slime out of my pants.

I put back on my damp pants and squirming in them trying to get comfortable, “so where do you think they'll be? Dashaun.” Jade gestured to me to check the classrooms one by one. “I think they'll be near 118, it feels logical right?.”

We begin to head to 118, the door is open yet I see something blocking it. I move closer to see a barricade made at the door but it's a weird thick glass which I can't really see through. “Here let me do it” I stepped back to let jade break the glass with her foot, it shattered all over.

I looked up from the glass on the floor and I saw tsuki right there piercing through my eyes. I instinctively jumped back as jade did the same. “M-master? All of this for you master.” Tsuki moved to the side and I saw the rest of the girls from zoé's group encased in a translucent clear substance that was like a white amber. I looked at tsuki again and then, ssshhhcloop. It was like pushing out air dried toothpaste out of the tube.

I looked down at tsuki's legs in pure horror to see the same liquid i slipped in. It was her fluids. I tripped backwards and caught myself on a wall, I looked back at the girl's encased in her excrement and I saw their faces being folded into a melted liquid. “Master. Do you like it?” Tsuki squealed in delight.

Jade took my arm and ran with me, we ran and we ran and we ran. “Dashaun what the hell is happening!” “I don't fucking know!” We ran into the cafeteria and saw the rest of Alexander's group. They jumped back the same way I did to tsuki. Am I really seen the same way?
