I am not a princess

"Stop fighting it Lily! Just let me fix your hair!" A maid muttered as I struggled against her. "I'M NOT LILY! I'M-" I sigh and stop talking. The maid stops working with my hair and lets me look at myself. I hate it. I don't see myself, it's just a pretty young woman, a princess. I wasn't supposed to be this. I was raised as the prince, and I am but now, after being told about a wedding with a prince from another kingdom, they made me a girl or well they forced me to be this o-or...I can't explain. They made me grow out my hair, they're making me wear a dress. They're making me truly a gir-

"Hey Lily. It's time." the maid says and starts dragging me towards the hallway. Wait...It's today. NO! THE WEDDING IS TODAY! "I-Is the wedding today?!" I quickly ask. The maid nods "We're going there now." I should've known. I should know by this white dress I'm wearing. I want to scream but right now I can't. I walk down the hall and find myself facing the doors about to lead to my doom..No, "I refuse!" I scream as the maid starts to open the doors. I run in the opposite direction. I don't want to get married to a man I've never met! I have to go! The maid yells out for the guards and I'm suddenly faced with two guards looking at me. "Come on princess." one of them says. I growl and run past them. I know I could take them on but I can't do that in this stupid wedding dress.

I don't even think I have my normal "boy" clothes anymore. My vests and suits and everything is gone. My father made me watch him burn them. I sobbed all night afterwards. But now I'll run away, I'll go to a nearby kingdom WITHOUT that prince I'm supposed to marry and I'll live as a simple peasant boy, I won't be rich but at least I'll be myself. I find myself at the palace gates in only a few minutes. I had to learn to run fast when I was trying to catch up with my father when he told me to "chase" him. I watch as some guards exit the palace to try to chase me. I run even faster, so fast that my legs start to finally hurt. "Where'd she go?" one of them asks, I hide behind a tree while they slowly walk away.

They're gone. I'm alone. Oh thank the gods. "What in the world?" I whisper, I don't know exactly what I'm seeing but it seems to be a very old building,

maybe centuries old. I don't know if I should enter it but something is telling me too. I just need to see what it is. I inhale and walk towards it.
