Interesting Story, Amazing Prose

"Hey William! So I’m currently on Chapter 4: P1, and I’m definitely still continuing your story. Honestly? I’m locked in already. This is really good. I also love that there are so many chapters because I can already tell this is the kind of story that just keeps getting better the deeper you get into it. 😏 Also, after reading your review structure... I fear I’ve stolen it LOL. So I’m using it here too: Characters/Dialogue, Pacing/Flow, and Writing Style/Prose. **Characters/Dialogue: The characters are extremely interesting. So far, I’d say Dez is probably my favorite, but I’m also really intrigued by Thur. There’s something about him that immediately stands out. You do a great job introducing the crew as an actual friend group rather than just a collection of characters thrown together for plot convenience. Their interactions feel believable, and the dialogue naturally establishes their relationships and personalities. From very early on, Hook had me suspicious. Honestly, when he tried to sell his friends out, I was surprised... but not fully surprised. You did a really strong job foreshadowing the type of person he was through both his dialogue and the way he carried himself. That made Dez finally realizing the truth hit even harder emotionally. I also really enjoy the dynamic of the group overall. Ritz seems like a genuinely good guy, which is exactly why his disappearance has me side-eyeing everything. 🤨 As for Thur and The Company, I’m just getting deeper into that side of the story, but I already love the mystery surrounding him. His code name is cool, and you do an excellent job establishing how cold, calculated, and precise he is through dialogue, actions, and subtle description rather than heavy exposition. Hector is another character I found interesting because he genuinely feels like someone who’s spent time in prison. But at the same time, he raises questions for me as a reader: were these traits he carries always under the surface or did being on death row in prison change him? I like that the story leaves room for those thoughts rather than spelling everything out directly. Overall, fantastic work with the characterization. **Pacing/Flow: Another category where you did a great job. The pacing feels very controlled. You reveal information gradually without giving away too much too soon, but you also never withhold so much that the story becomes frustrating. The cliffhangers are extremely effective too — and as someone who also abuses cliffhangers in my own writing 😂, I respect it heavily. Your chapters constantly end in ways that make the reader go, “👀🍿 okay... one more chapter.” And honestly, that’s exactly what happened to me while reading this. The story flows naturally between intense action and quieter reflective moments. When action happens, it feels intense and urgent. But when the story slows down for reflection or dialogue, it never feels unnecessary. Those slower moments actually strengthen the tension and emotional weight of everything happening around the characters. **Writing Style/Prose: Your use of multiple POVs is done very well. I especially like that the story is told in third person. Even though Dez feels like the emotional center of the story so far, the narration still allows the reader to understand the larger picture rather than becoming trapped in one singular perspective. I think that choice is especially important for a story like this because it prevents the narrative from feeling one-sided. Instead of immediately forcing the reader to sympathize with only one character or viewpoint, you allow us to understand multiple motives, perspectives, and layers of conflict at once. I also really enjoy the mystery elements you’ve established: Who exactly is Thur? What is The Company really about? Why does it seem like the “suspects” they’re discussing are actually our three boys? Those questions sit in the back of the reader’s mind and quietly push them to keep reading for answers. As for the prose itself: excellent work. I genuinely don’t have any major critiques regarding grammar, punctuation, or sentence structure. The story feels cohesive, polished, and very intentionally planned out. Nothing about it feels random or thrown together on a whim. And honestly, I can already tell this story is aiming for something deeper than just action, mystery, or surface-level commentary. There’s clearly a larger message and a much more layered plot developing underneath everything happening in these early chapters, and that’s what’s really pulling me in. Loving this story so far, and I’ll definitely keep reading. You’ll absolutely be seeing my reactions and comments throughout. Seriously, great job William!!"
