Chapter 1: The Golden Awakening
The moonlight should have been beautiful.
But it bled silver across the marble. Cold. Fractured. Like shattered glass scattered on the floor.
Aria Winter stood in the center of that broken light.
Her fingers dug into the fabric of her plain white gown until her knuckles turned bone-white.
Eighteen.
The age of awakening. The night every wolf discovered their place in the brutal hierarchy.
Alphas stood at the apex. Born rulers. Absolute power.
Betas formed the backbone. Steady. Invisible.
Omegas… they existed at the bottom. Disposable.
The Winter family had always been Betas. Safe. Ordinary. Unremarkable.
It’ll be fine, her adoptive mother had whispered, though worry clouded her eyes. Beta is nothing to be ashamed of.
The heavy doors of the Sacred Hall burst open.
A blade of ice-cold wind swept through, gutting the candle flames.
Every head turned.
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. The air itself seemed to thin—as though the atmosphere had been sucked out and replaced with something heavier. Something that pressed against the lungs.
Kyle Blackwood, Alpha King of the Blood Moon Pack, strode inside.
He was a titan carved from violence and dark grace. His black suit did nothing to hide the deadly, coiled muscle beneath. His face was a masterpiece of ruthless angles, and his eyes—the color of liquid mercury—swept the room with the casual indifference of a predator among insects.
Aria dropped her gaze instantly.
Why is he here?
The Alpha King never attended common rites. He was the law. The executioner. The god of their world.
She didn’t see him stop.
She didn’t see the way his silver eyes narrowed, his pupils blowing wide until the silver was swallowed by darkness.
Kyle went rigid.
Inside his soul, a beast roared. A primal, starving cry that shook his very marrow.
Mine.
The word detonated in his consciousness with the force of a hurricane.
His wolf—the beast that had never bowed to anyone—howled in recognition.
His fated mate.
The one the Moon Goddess had created just for him.
She stood less than ten meters away.
Kyle caught her scent—fresh rain masking the sharp tang of ozone. His wolf lunged. His hands curled into fists, nails threatening to split into claws. Every instinct screamed at him to cross the distance, claim her, mark her in front of the world.
And then—something worse.
His pulse, which had survived wars and assassination attempts without flinching, skipped.
A single, traitorous skip.
No.
He was Alpha King. He didn’t bend to instinct. He commanded it.
“Begin the rite!” the High Priest’s voice boomed.
Aria took a shuddering breath and placed her palm on the ancient runestone.
Light bloomed—soft, silver, and pale. A Beta’s light.
Relief almost washed over her.
Then, the world shattered.
The silver didn’t fade—it exploded into molten, incandescent gold. The radiance filled the hall with a brilliance that forced everyone to shield their eyes. It was ancient. Regal. Terrifying.
“Impossible!” the priest’s voice cracked.
Gold. The mark of a pureblood Alpha. But this was something older—a radiance that had been mourned as extinct for fifteen years.
Inside the light, Aria felt her wolf tear free.
A massive white creature with eyes like sapphires, radiating an aura of command that made the very air bend.
And then—the memories hit her like a tsunami.
She wasn’t Aria Winter.
She was Aria Silvermoon, Princess of the Lost Moon Pack, the last living heir to the purest Alpha bloodline in existence.
The light faded.
Aria stood at the altar, transformed. Her spine was straight. Her chin lifted. The timid girl was gone. In her place stood a Queen who had finally remembered her throne.
Silence crushed the hall.
Until Kyle Blackwood rose.
He moved toward her, his steps a deliberate metronome of power. Each beat synced with the collective heartbeat of the room.
Aria turned.
Sapphire met mercury.
Electricity shot through her—not a spark, but a detonation. It didn’t ask permission. It didn’t wait for her mind to catch up. Her spine straightened without her consent. Her feet, rooted to the altar a moment ago, suddenly ached to move toward him.
No.
Her wolf ignored the objection entirely.
A sigh rose from somewhere deep in her soul—a sound of raw, aching recognition. Not surprise. Not fear. The sound of a lock clicking shut after searching for its key for fifteen years.
Him.
Kyle stopped inches from her.
The air grew thin. His scent—cedarwood, iron, and storm—enveloped her like a physical weight.
“So,” he rasped, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. “There you are.”
He didn’t wait for her to speak. He turned to the stunned crowd, his voice booming like thunder.
“I, Kyle Blackwood, Alpha King of the Blood Moon, claim this woman. She is my fated Mate. She is your Luna.”
The hall erupted in chaos.
But Aria didn’t bow. She looked at his hand—large, powerful, reaching for her—and she didn’t take it.
“Alpha King,” she said, her voice like silk over steel.
She locked onto his silver eyes, asking the question that made the room freeze.
“Will you respect my choice? Even if that choice... isn’t you?”
Kyle’s expression shuttered. His jaw turned to granite, and the temperature around him plummeted.
He slowly withdrew his hand.
But not before Aria caught it—the faintest tremor in his fingers. A fracture in the unbreakable. A crack so small it vanished before she could be sure she’d seen it at all.
He stepped closer, his presence swallowing her whole. His fingers brushed her cheek—light, yet the command behind it was iron.
“I won’t force you to accept me now. But remember—” His thumb grazed her lower lip, his eyes burning with obsessive possession. “You, Aria Silvermoon, are destined to be my Queen. And that will never change.”
Aria’s heart detonated. She wanted to argue, but the Mate bond sang between them—a live wire, an unbreakable thread stitched by the Moon Goddess herself.
Kyle smiled—a conqueror’s smile.
“Three days, Aria. In three days, at the Mate Ceremony, you will stand beside me. And the world will witness our union.”
He turned and walked away, leaving Aria alone on the altar, watching the broad expanse of his back.
Anger burned in her chest. He hadn’t asked. He had simply decided.
But beneath the anger, a traitorous voice in her soul whispered...
Home.
The moon hung high, watching as the wheel of fate began to turn.
Three days.
To accept the King, or to break the world.
And this was only the beginning.
