Chapter 1

"How many?" Alaric asked as he finished cleaning his gun.

"Nine." Leo responded.

Nine. That was low. The Agency was struggling, they didn't have enough warriors to manage the the influx of attacks on the capitol. Alaric stood from his seat and stared at Leo.

Leo was tall, 6"2, though still shorter than Alaric. He had broad shoulders, long unruly sandy hair and a scar that marked his left side of the face from his eye to his jaw. "What am I meant to do with only nine Leo." Alaric sighed taking the sword that Leo currently held out to him and sheathing it by his side.

"All we can do is train them and hope that they have skills." Leo replied as they made their way to the door. "This group all have interesting gifts."

"So no humans?" Alaric noted.

"None, there aren't many humans left and those that are, aren't strong enough and you know you are the only half breed that has gifts." Leo opened the door.

It had been five hundred years since the daemons had risen and mythical creatures had clawed their way to the human realm. Not all were bad, and they had found homes and started lives in the human community. They had bred with humans, and the majority of the half breeds, as they were called, were more human that mythical, except Alaric. There were few like him, in order to be a half breed with gifts one of your parents had to be a high level daemon and a high level daemon was not a being humans wanted to engage with let alone mate with.

Alaric's father was a very high levelled daemon and evil in its purest form. "Don't sound disappointed by that Leo." The truth was the only way high level daemons mated was by rape.

"Sorry."

They continued toward the large hall that hosted the new recruits. Once they reached the large oak doors both men stood and looked to one another. "Let's meet the newbies." Leo smiled as he reached for the handle and pushed the large doors open.
